Solved Help before installing Windows 8.

Hello, I plan to purchase Windows 8 (Non-pro version)to install it on my Desktop computer that came equipped with Windows 7 home premium64Bit. I'm actualling going to do a dual boot configuration. Windows 7 home premium 64Bit on one partition and Windows 8 on another partition.

I'm not sure how the touch monitor is going to work when I purchase the touch monitor. Will be using the current non-touch monitor for the mean time. Does the monitor have the standard monitor cable and and the USB cable for the touch function? I just want to make sure that the touch funtion will work and that my computer is compatible to have Windows 8 before investing on the Windows 8 $119 version ) and touch monitor.

Should I be concerned? Not sure if this will work as I thought it would. Upgrade assistant detailed report of my desktop:

Go ahead and shrink C to Clean Install - Windows 8 from booted installer to the shrink space you made. This will configure a Dual Boot menu. later if you find you dont' want 8 you can simply delete it in Disk Mgmt, or we can help you move the boot files to 8 to Recover Partition Space Used by an Older OS

There shouldn't be any problems with the issues the upgrade advisor found, however you'll need to wait and see how each OS responds to the touchscreen being plugged in. Be sure to enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3) so that drivers are more likely to be delivered, watch for driver-loading animation in System Tray, check Windows Updates to install all Important and Optional (except Bingware and IE11 which bollixes gadgets). After testing the screen's functionality in both OS's, you may find it necessary to install enabling software which might need adjusting. Let us know how it goes.

Many users find Windows 8 intolerable due to an unnecessary social media start screen, which can be tamed by installing Classic Shell for a normal start button and start screen. There are also gadgets for 8 for the millions of users who love them.

Sweet. I will be purchasing Windows 8 soon then. As soon as I get it going, I may come back with more questions. I hope not. LOL For what I do at work, I need to learn how to use Windows 8, so I kinda have no choice. Reason I'm doing a dual boot configuration.

My HD is 688GB. I plan to only use 100GB for the Windows 8 partition. Thanks

Greg, after a bit of mess from the computer department lady at BestBuy,I purchased the Windows 8 operating system yesterday. The lady insisted that the Windows 8 $119 OS wasn't the full version.

I went ahead and backed up and wiped out the factory 700GB hard drive to start fresh. I then installed Windows 7 on the C partition and Windows 8 on the other 150GB partition afterword. Everything was smooth with no hic-ups. The Windows 8 OS installed much quicker than the Windows 7 OS. Thanks for the help, I just needed that small push to dare my self to do this dual boot configuration.
