help, computer just turns off

definatley not, i've checked all washers around the motherboard and there are no stray wires, loose connections close enough to even arc given the oppurtunity, I don't own an earth strap but always discharge and touch the case if i'm inside. I'm wondering if there is a kernel fix availble without a reinstall. like the old kernel 32 fixer for xp, I only ask this because i'm still a bit curious as to fixing this issue for good

I'd take the graphics card, memory, and cable connectors out and re-seat all of them. Then run the memory test and see what you get. Something's causing this random shutdown. What power supply are you running? When did you buy each component?

I dont have all the dates to hand but all within the last 3 months. The graphics card was most recent and was new the ballistix memory was last month and the rest was purchased from a work collegue who wanted a media centre and then decided that this wouldnt be fast enough for him. he'd purchased all the bits 8 weeks before offering them to me and the cpu cooler was second hand and i used an ethanol cleaner on it before seating. when i seated the cooler there were no issues, it attached straight to the sock cooler bracket and is designed for skt am2.

Did the random shutdowns start happening before or after the graphics card and memory?

Ok, so it was before you added the new memory and graphics card? If so, it could very well be an issue with the motherboard or CPU itself, which would require sending it back or returning it for a different one.

Let us know what you find out.
