[Help] External Hard Disk error: Folder Won't Load !!

Hey all,

Since a few weeks I am facing this error. Whenever I try to browse Movies folder from my External Hard Disk the folder won't load !!

I tried creating another movie folder in a different partition but the same problem persists there !

It only happens with the folder which contain movies ! Rest all the folders containing pictures, music and other documents run fine !!

I tried to scan the folder for viruses but the speed was so slow that I couldn't complete the task ( 100 KB/s scan speed )

For better understanding of my problem please see the image attached !

Note: Never faced such kind of problem in Internal hard disk !

See if turning off of indexing of drive contents solves the problem.

Which option to select ?

1. Apply changes to G:/ only or
2. Apply changes to G:/subfolders and files

Well as I mentioned I created 2 folders on two separate drives (F: & G: )

First I chose option no 2 for F: drive but it didn't work
But for G: I selected option no. 2 and it worked !!

So any suggestions how get the folder in drive F: working properly ?

Edit : Now it has stopped working for G: also , any other alternative ?

HOW TO FILL OUT YOUR SYSTEM SPECS

In the line at the top of www.SevenForums.com you will see UserCP.
That is an abbreviation for User Control Panel.
Click on UserCP.
In the left-hand column, under Your Profile you will see Edit System Spec.
Click on Edit System Spec
You can copy and paste from the output of Speccy, Speccy - System Information - Free Download to fill out much of the info. Be sure to use the Other Info section of your System Specs for such info as your optical drive, your wireless adapter, your speakers, etc.

Now also need a MAXIMIZED snapshot of the output of DISK MANAGEMENT.

To run Disk Management:
WIN | type DISKMGMT.MSC | ENTER

WIN is the key with the wavy flag.

To maximize the display, ALT + Spacebar combo | X key

To make a snapshot, use the Snipping Tool:
WIN | type Snipping | ENTER

Now did you at one time have XP, Vista, or Win 7 installed on G:?

I ask because the partition is marked as Active.

Good.

Now before I propose a solution, I'm going to ask a couple other chaps to take a look at this thread. You have an unusual mixture of logical drives and partitions where there is absolutely no need for a logical drive.

There is no need for your external drive to be marked as active and marking such as active can cause complications since you are not booting from the drive.

Changing from active to not active is not problematic but changing from logical to primary partition is something I've never done directly. I've shuffled info from them and then deleted and then created primary partitions but I think one of the others can propose a simpler method.

You must be having a senior moment.

I had previously mentioned two problems and one of those was that you had a logical drive stuck in the middle of a couple of partitions.

Option 4 explains how to change a logical drive to a primary partition.

Let's get that change made and then I'll go to the other change that needs to be made.
