Hey guys, been trying to turn an old laptop display into an external monitor for the last few months with no success. I actually know how to do this, the process and the steps etc., its just I can't find a compatible controller board to make it work.

Manufacturer : Samsung ;
Model No : LTN160HT02 ;
Dimension : 16" ;
Resolution : 1920x1080
Data Sheet: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/21720967/Panel_SAMSUNG_LTN160HT02-001_0_%5BDS%5D.pdf

I've been searching all over Ebay and Aliexpress. I usually just randomly browse and try to find a board that matches/supports the basic specs (screen size, resolution). And so far I'm 0 for 8 in tries. I send an email of the spec sheet and I get a response saying not compatible. I would love some help or direction, so far it's like finding a needle in a haystack.

That's where you all come in. I've seen previous/similar threads with successful endings, please someone out there help me find a compatible board for this! Please, any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

What I see with that cable [similar to wife's Toshiba that failed] is it connects to the inverter/display controller built into the motherboard. Changing the panel didn't help nor did changing the cable so the only thing left was the motherboard. Since it was between 4 and 5 years old she just got a new one. The main thing is the motherboard, some older Notebooks I've worked on or junked had a small printed circuit card that fit in the display panel, was the interface between the motherboard and the panel. Looks like your panel didn't use that technology, the cable connected directly to the motherboard.

How can you tell that by just looking at it?

I can tell that from experience working on Notebooks, mostly end up taking them apart to recycle. Took my wife's apart to replace the LCD panel and saw the same type cable, just shaped a bit differently.

Not that I'm aware of. Most likely this is an area where experimenters would venture.
