HELP! HP DV4 Laptop Constant not responding

you can clean install windows 7 with the hp upgrade disks as i have done this.

You will be missing a couple of drivers - go to the hp website put in your model number and download the every driver on the list. You will be missing 3 on is the ene cir reciever - then hard drive protection and an intel one. Sorry can't remember but if you up date them all it should be fine.

oh i also done a clean install of vista them upgraded to 7 it worked ok, still need to worry about some drivers. My best installation to date is erasing my hard drive using the hard drive manufacture disk then a clean install. No problems

good luck..

now when i look in the logs i see a lot of critical and warning about boot performance monitoring and shutdown monitoring, it also told me to change my theme to windows 7 basic for best performance and then my device manager stops responding! i am getting very frustrated with windows, i only installed programs and drivers recommended, i have no extra programs on here i am still having problems, i followed the install step by step, do i have to learn another OS like linux to stop these rediculous problems im my event viewer,

: The embedded controller (EC) did not respond within the specified timeout period. This may indicate that there is an error in the EC hardware or firmware or that the BIOS is accessing the EC incorrectly. You should check with your computer manufacturer for an upgraded BIOS. In some situations, this error may cause the computer to function incorrectly.

THE BIOS FROM HP WEBSITE WAS OLDER THAN THE ONE I HAD

The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service hung on starting.

The Windows Event Log service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

The Windows Defender service hung on starting.

Did you replace drivers which the Win7 installer provided? As I mentioned earlier, the Win7 installer is mostly driver-complete; you only need to install drivers which are missing in Device Manager after receiving drivers from Windows Update.

It seems in re-reading your thread that the problems started when you added a bunch of drivers from the HP website. The only drivers I pick from HP webpages for models I work on are for touchscreen or webcam.

If you have a restore point to roll back to right after you installed, i would use it. Otherwise I would do a clean reinstall and this time use the drivers which Win7 and Windows Update provides.

As also suggested, I'd install any missing drivers or programs one per day with a restore point so you have time to test their performance. Then you know exactly what caused the problem.

how can i save the driver thats already installed for my touchpad so i dont lose the scrollbar before i reformat and install windows 7 clean? and can u give me a quick guide so i know i do it right and its not me.. thanks for your time

the freezing seems random, it hasnt done it that much today, should i just leave it and wait for an update or something to come out, i just feel like reformatting and reinstalling is not gunna change anything, i am not trying to be stubborn, ive just done this so many times it feels like nothing is going to work, ive tried regular upgrade, fresh install, factory restore then upgrade, and it seems like its working better now, and everytime i upgrade it wants me to change my bios, the bios that i have now is F.52 9/3/2009, it came off the upgrade cd they sent me with windows 7, but on the actual HP website after i put in my model number the bios they tell me to install is F.4a and the date says 8/2009, are you saying to format my drive and only install windows driver and updates first then do my system drivers? kuz then there are problems, i have to get the ati catalyst control center off the upgrade disk, but it seems to be not hanging up as much today, what should i do?

hi sweetie

this is what i think you should do?

It is so worth a try

go to device manager

go to disk drives

find out the number and google it - i am running a hp and mine is seagate

use there website to find the hard drive software

burn the disk - bootable

erase your hard drive -don't know if you can hang onto recovery=- back up just incase

i did an x and o reformate - best one i did - remote took 2-3 hour on a 250 g hard drive

run the driver through

best installation i have done.

I had a virus problem and reinstalled 7 about 10 times done them all

still running off this on no errors
