Hello all,

I am going absolutely nuts over the album art in WMP12 - W7x64. The album art is correctly embedded in the file, but WMP12 will show a different picture. I can see the correct picture in Explorer, in the file itself, in my MP3 tag editor, even WMP12 shows a small correct version of the picture in the player bar. But on the album it just shows a random picture. And I keep changing it, but then another file that was correct before, is then having the same problem. And when I correct that, etc, etc.

Here is an example and its driving me nuts. There is no end to it. Going in circles.

http://www.semmick.com/WMP12 Album Art Issue.jpg

I have changed the album art for that file alone 3 times, but as soon as I update another file, I have to go back and correct it again. And when I do that, another file is doing the same. I am losing it.

Do you know how to fix this, or what causes this?

Thanks so much,
Ronald

Windows tries to retrieve additional info from the internet. You may want to turn the setting off, if your album art is embedded. Go to the Library settings to disable.

I have done everything I can think of to stop that from happening. That option is disabled, I have emptied the art cache, I have reloaded the library, to no avail. WMP12 keeps messing up the album art.

I have to add that its only in this folder with single songs from different albums. Its not happening in folders that only contain songs from one album. Its happening in this folder with a collection of single songs only, so it seems.

And then again, why will it retrieve the wrong info then? I dont think thats the issue. Its happening as soon as I add album art to one song, another song is shown with that same album art. So its not because of the internet updates. Its something else.

Hi,

I previously experienced the same ordeal. I know it's painful but there is a way to get the tags down perfectly.

First things first, remove the files from the Music Library. Move them to the desktop, to the root of C:\ or wherever, as long as not within your Music Library.

Then using your tag editor, I personally use Mp3tag - the universal Tag Editor (ID3v2, MP4, OGG, FLAC, ...), make sure that you only have one album art embedded in the file. Delete the one you don't want. Some files will have front cover, back etc etc.

Then copy it back to your Music library. This should work.

In case it doesn't, you can try rebuilding your Media Library.

Thanks. I was going to embed all art for the songs that are problematic.

I think WMP12 has an issue with the combination of embedded art and art it associates with the file. As its only happening in a folder with single songs and a combination of embedded files and album art small & large jpg's.

I am also already using Universal Tag Editor. Its an awesome program.

Its only for 290 songs, so its not that bad.

Going to try that out and see what happens.

Indeed! I discovered it after I recently felt the need to properly tag my songs. :D

Alright mate. Please let us know what happens.

IF you have more than one track in that folder, and you have FOLDER ART (JPEG files; more than one), it will default to what it deems the art for all of the tracks although you have tagged the file correctly.

Move the file in a separate folder and you should see your music file(s) correct art image appear. It happens to me with my various tunes within my one dump-all-in folder all of the time. But again, if it is moved, the windows media player will display the correct art image (CD Cover).

Also remember that some of the JPEG's might have their properties as hidden to where you would not be able to see them but the media player does and will display it.

Hope this helps add some light.

Hi,

I did a complete rebuild of the library but to no avail.

  • I deleted the media library folder
    I emptied the art cache
I removed all folders from the WMP12 library
I disabled all automatic information updates
I deleted all hidden album art from the specific music folders
I then embedded all art one by one in the songs that are affected
    I then restarted the laptop
I started WMP12 and added the music folder

Boom, same issue. But I have found the file that causes the issue.

There are two files in each music folder that are displayed on some of the files in WMP12

AlbumArt_{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}_Small.jpg
AlbumArt_{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}_Large.jpg

When I delete those files and double click the file in WMP12 the correct art is displayed. However, that art will then be saved as a hidden file with the same name.

AlbumArt_{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}_Small.jpg
AlbumArt_{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}_Large.jpg

And then THAT art is displayed on WMP12 on several files. So those two .jpgs are causing the problem. However, I now I need to stop WMP12 from either creating those two files, or stop from accessing them.

Anyway, 10 hours of work, and all for nothing. At this moment I really hate WMP12. My dislike for MS starts to boil up again.

If anyone has an idea on how to stop those two files, let me know.

AlbumArt_{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}_Small.jpg
AlbumArt_{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}_Large.jpg

Thanks again.
Ronald

I just locked the folder from write permissions for WMP12, it had an effect. Now the problem files werent showing any album art, although the album art is embedded in the file. As soon as I unlocked the folder, WMP12 stored the 2 files again.

AlbumArt_{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}_Small.jpg
AlbumArt_{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}_Large.jpg

I think the problem might be with the files instead of WMP12. It seems that WMP12 is unable to create unique AlbumArt_{GUID}_Large.jpg for those few files. Maybe it cant read the embedded art and then uses the default art to show in the player.

I see that no one has the answer, not here, not on other fora.

Anyhoo, I have workaround in place that works. Just isolate the problem files in separate folders and the album art shows correctly in WMP12.

I guess that's just the way it works. They need to be in separate folders. :)
