Solved Help. I'm a moron, so I deleted the SP1 Beta uninstall files.

[Solved (I guess)] - I'm a moron, so I deleted the SP1B install files

Uh, so, yeah.

Windows helpfully gives me a message, every-so-often, stating that it will expire in 0 hours, as I have a beta version of SP 1.

Obviously, the solution is to use the non-beta version of SP 1, however, I can't do that, because I accidentally deleted the un-install files, using CCleaner.

So, I've tried to do a repair install, using my original Windows 7 Retail disk. (Running the setup with Vista SP1 compatibility mode)

However, Windows black-screens, and then restarts, inevitably, at some point in the process.

I assume it's because Windows has 'expired', and all, though I'm not sure.

So, is there any way to avoid a custom install? Any way at all?

If not, is there an imaging program that will allow me to image everything, besides Windows files?

Thanks in advance for the help, and stuff! I hope that someone really does answer this.

Alas. I should have mentioned that I do not a have a system restore point prior to when I installed the service pack.

This is what I find. Beta SP1 will stop running 6-30-2011 according to the tutorial.

Look at Option 2.

Ah yes, the dreaded CCleaner.

Does it show up under Installed Updates? (KB 976932)

If the service pack is listed but grayed out, you can't uninstall the service pack.

If it doesn't show up under KB 976932, download SP1 and install it over the old.

If you still have the SP1 beta or RC installed, then you will need to uninstall them using an option in the tutorial below before they stop running and install the Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) RTM afterwards.

Option 2 with CMD should work.

Ops, yea I missed that. I don't think Wusa.exe will work either. Doen't that uninstall use the same meta data that the OP removed?

According to the tutorial it should remove SP1 Beta but I have not tried it.

Otherwise the only option I see is a clean install.

Brink isn't on line at the moment or we could get clarification.

It can't make things worse if it doesn't work. It should just state it can't find the file or similar.

My thought was that CMD is acting as the .exe to delete the SP1 but that may just activate the uninstaller. I'm not sure.

Wusa.exe is actually an Installer for use in silent installs. The Uninstall "option" uses the same data as Windows Uninstall.

One other thought. You wouldn't happen to be using Windows 7 Backup would you?

How long ago did you run CCleaner? Also, what's your system specs? Use an SSD for system drive? If you do, I'm out of bullets. If not, there may be another way to recover the deleted files.

I had this same problem when SP1 RTM came and after doing a lot of research and help from this forum and other MS forum's, I found the ONLY way to sort this out was a clean install of my PC & Laptop. Have a look at this thread for more information:-

As already mentioned, a Clean Install is most likely the only way. There is one long shot method, however, which does work for some lucky people. Do you still have the SP1 beta installer you used? See if you can dig it out from your Downloads folder.

Then read the Using PKGMGR Command: Uninstalling Service Pack at the very bottom of this link: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/109213-windows-update-uninstall-console-level.html

To save yourself a bit of time, consider using my tool for the extraction process: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/155584-windows-update-extract-update.html

Summary:

Find installer,
Extract using my tool
start /w pkgmgr /m:{full service pack name}.cab /up /s:{sandobox folder}

P.S. If you can't find the installer easily, this method has such a low success rate (although high enough for me to mention it), that I would just recommend a Clean Install.

Sadly, it was so long ago, that I have neither the original installer, nor a chance of recovering it. =/

I thank all of you for your help anyway, although, I guess I'll -have- to do a clean install. -
