Hey guys,

I have a Billion BiPAC 7300GRA Wireless Modem/Router which I have been using around my house with various laptops and devices.

Today I bought a Toshiba Satellite M500 with the following specs:
2.2ghz
4gb ram
500gb hdd
512mb dedicated graphics

I have being trying to set it up with my BiPAC 7300GRA, however the computer has not been able to detect my wireless network, apart from when I sat the computer right near the wireless modem.

All other devices work fine from any area within the house, bar my new M500 Laptop. The built-in wireless adapter is an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN.

  • I have tried setting the card simply to 802.11b/g instead of 802.11a/b/g/n, however neither has allowed me to find my network any easier.

  • As well as this, I have tried disabling 802.11n however this had no effect on my laptop's ability to find and connect to my wireless network.

I'm running windows 7, and since set-up earlier today I have installed Microsoft Office 2007 Student Home edition; however connection to my wireless network was no better before this installation.

I allowed Norton AntiVirus to install itself until I can connect to the Internet and get a better AV, and am not sure if this has an effect on my ability to connect.

So, could someone please help me connect to my wireless network: I need to be connected as soon as possible.

edit: if you'd like more information on the laptop i purchased: http://laptops.toshiba.com/laptops/satellite/m500

Lots of thanks in advance.

I've done so, and have ver 12.4.1.11 driver.

I tried rolling it back and to no effect; re-updating did nothing either. I also tried the old disable/re-enable trick but this also didn't help.

Have you tried unplugging the router for about 4 minutes.

Have you tried resetting the router.

Can you ping.

G=Go to Start > Run, and type cmd, now type ping google.com

Do you get a response.?

Now run ipconfig /all and post that info back here.

BTW, are all light blinking corectly om the router?

What does Device Manager tell you? Are there any devices missing, or flagged with yellow triangles or exclamation marks? Have you got all necessary services running which support wireless?

Make sure you haven't got the wifi card disabled from the front panel microswitch.

I would imagine your router isn't set to hide its SSID? Have you entered the security code for your wireless signal faithfully?

I took a screencap and brought it over to the computer via usb. http://i47.tinypic.com/fz7x8l.png

Pinging google did not work (as expected). :(

I've made sure that the front panel microswitch has been on and enable wifi, but still no signal can be captured from over 2ft away from my router. The security code is fine. Just checking device manager now.

All that utility does is tell me my wireless adapter and driver version...

PS: I updated drivers but to no effect.

Thanks for the help so far guys, I'm sure we'll find a solution to this.

Seeing as the hardware is brand new and a native Windows7 machine can't you call Toshiba support?

Perhaps there's a generic/system specific issue they can talk you though... ;)
