Solved Help migrating admin acct to standard

Hi all. I hope this is the correct forum to be posting this. If not, I apologize.

I recently did a clean install of 7 Home Premium x64. As it was my first time ever installing an OS, and I needed to import my former theme and so on, the only account I created was an admin account.

Now I've created a standard account, for security's sake. Is there a way to bring over my desktop icons, personalizations, and so on over to my standard account from my admin account? I saw "change my environment variables" under user accounts in control panels, but I'm afraid to click on any of those options and try one without asking. Plus, under "configure advanced user profile properties," it only gives my admin account of course, and it doesn't give me any options as to what to DO with that account/profile, even when logged on as the admin.

Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

When the os is installed you are in the Standard account when it first gets to the desktop. You would have to log out of that account and log into the admin account. Before you can log into the admin account you would have to use the command prompt box and put in some commands in order to be able to do that. Is that what you did?

No, I don't remember doing that. But if you say that's the only way I COULD have done all that in the admin account, then I must have? I truly don't know. If that's what the install disk told me to do, and/or the install tutorial on this site told me to do, that's what I did. If it helps any, it was 7 Home Premium x64 with SP1 retail from the MS piracy victim department.

Well I think you are still in the standard account. You can click on Computer and then C. In the window that opens you can scroll down on the left side to Users and see what is listed. You will probably see Default, Public, All Users and whatever you named your account. You can also go to Start and type in UAC, click on the topic and check what your setting is.

Another thought is if you had an admin account you would have two accounts and you would be asked which one you wanted every time you booted up.

No, what I named my account when installing truly is the admin. I just now did what you said to do and it shows that account name (which is what I'm logged onto now) as the one having the desktop and all the system files, etc. The standard account which I created today doesn't show any of that.

The real admin account does not have your name on it. It shows as Administrator with Administrator under it. Go to Start and type in Change password, select it at the top of the list and a page will come up. Click on Manage another account. The page changes to show you all your accounts. If you have a real admin account it will show like I described above.

Do you have to choose what account you want when you turn on the computer?

The only accounts I have in Control Panel > User Accounts > Manage Accounts are the name I called my account when I installed, which we'll call Name1, which shows as the only account under User Accounts until I click manage another account. It looks like this:

Name1
Administrator
Password protected

And the one I created today, a standard account which we'll call Name2, which looks like this:

Name2
Standard user
Password protected

And

Guest
Guest account is off

I just today set up passwords for my Name1 account (which is at least "an" administrator account, if not "the" administrator), and my new Name2 account, so yes, as of today, I have to choose which account I want. But I didn't until today, because I only had the one (Name1 Administrator) account. I had the option when I installed with the disk to create a password, but I declined at that time.

What I want to do, regardless of whether Name1 account is an admin account or not (which it just ... is ...), is bring those Name1 items such as desktop, folders, etc. over to the Name2 standard account.

Click on the picture above. It's a picture of my Account page. You can see the real Admin account on the right and my admin account on the left. The real admin account says admin in both places. The standard account is the one with my name on it with admin under it. As for transferring I usually use Windows Explorer in the real admin account and copy and paste to the other account.

OK. Then what you're speaking of is more like what went on in this discussion. But the account that I created when I installed 7 is still "AN" administrator account, just like in that discussion. And it's the only admin account that shows up, anywhere, on my machine.

But none of what we've talked about actually even matters. My question is more similar to the thread in the link I put above, but that's still not exactly my question. Since my question involves migrating themes and settings between accounts more than what's an admin and what isn't, I'll post it in a forum dealing more specifically with that.

Apologies to the mods for even mentioning creating my account as an admin account when I installed 7, thus taking this thread in loops.
