Help! My DVD drive is not reading any CD/DVDs

Hi there. I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop with windows 7 and the DVD drive is not working at all. I have tried with brand new DVDs, music CDs and video games and none of them work.
When I put in a disc there are a few wurring noises but nothing loads up. When I click on the drive in Computer the drive opens and tells me to insert a disc.
In properties and Device Manager it says the device is working properly.
I have tried reinstalling the drive, deleting upper and lower filters, and I have run the Windows Fixit program and nothing has worked so far.
My drive is: TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633C ATA Device.
My computer is about a year old and is completely standard. I have hardly used the DVD driver at all since I purchased the computer so I have no idea how it could have broke.
Please give me any solutions which may fix this frustrating problem. Thanks

Hi Lidmania,

You seem to have tried almost everything. The only thing left: Try cleaning the lense with a Lense cleaner CD.

If it doesn't help, I would presume your ODD is dead. ( I would confirm it only after ascertaining an external ODD works.)

If your laptop is within warranty contact Toshiba for a replacement. Otherwise you are on your own to get it replaced.

Yea I had a feeling that there might be nothing else to try. I'll try cleaning the lens and if that doesn't work I guess ill have to take it in to an expert. Thanks for the advice.

I would not write the optical reader off yet!

The removal of the optical reader from your computer is very easy.

I've had Toshiba laptops for a long time. For the optical reader to go bad is unusual.

Would you please fill in you system specs which will allow us to give better advice.

Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (located on the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec (left-hand column)

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

In the System Manufacturer Block, enter:
Manufacturer and Model and
ADD the word laptop, desktop, netbook or tablet.
For example:
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.

You will find that in Speccy, you can select info from the display
using your mouse/touchpad and then paste that info into your specs.

SIW is a marvelous program, but the free version does not offer
this capability.

I have already tried Microsoft Fix it Solution Center previously. I went through the links again and it had the same result:
Media in CD/DVD drive is not readable - Not Fixed
The drive is empty or the media format is not supported

Yea I have tried a range of things and none work. They all work in my wife's laptop.

I am having the same issue stated by lidmania and nothing worked out for me too.

One important thing to specify is this issue started for me after disk partition is done.before that i did not have any issue.
