Help needed with os shortcut

1.46 gb recovery partition? Anyway what I wanted was that you backup that folder to some other drive, so you can delete it from the desktop- thats the only way to check. You dont have an external drive, you dont have a data partition and I dont want to complicate things by asking you to shrink C:. So the options for you are to get hold of an external drive somehow or clean install.

A clean install is what I think I wanted to do but didn't know how to back up my factory programs and drivers....or how to retrieve them. I did however, just attempt to delete the shortcut in safe mode. When it boots back up normally I will snip/post what it told me when it stopped the deletion.

This laptop came with a 32 bit system. The Windows 7 I bought came with both 32 and 64 bit discs. If I manage to do a clean install somehow would it be better to do the 32 or the 64??

It does this in both normal and safe mode. I haven't tried safe with prompt mode.

I just figured it out. I don't recall what it said but I clicked on the icon, clicked properties and under "advanced" it said something about read only and hidden. I selected "hidden" went down and selected apply and poof, it went away. It wasn't a shortcut icon...I went into C drive and created a shortcut for windows and it came right back up but was easily deleted when dragged over to the recycle bin. Problem (actually "aggrivation") solved. Thanks to all who responded and helped. It's nice to see a "Forum Community" like this available for gals like me who are basically illiterate when it comes to computers. On a brighter note...I actually like Windows 7 over Vista. I just don't know if the disc I used to install 32 bit Windows 7 will work again to install it on my desktop. Thanks again, everyone. I'm certain to be back in the very near future. Tawnya

Well that's a great news. Glad you got it sorted.
If you manage to do a clean install, i'd choose the 64bit, many reasons are there. Like more and efficient use of memory, better resistance to malware and rootkits (though there's one TDL4 variant for 64bit, but that's the only one till now) etc..
Also, don't forget to do a image of system drive so that in case when disaster strikes (which I really not hope to), you can have your system up and running within minutes. You can use windows inbuilt tool or use 3rd party tools like Macrium Reflect Backup and Hard Disk Imaging for Windows 7, Vista, XP and Server 2003/2008

I prefer Macrium because the image created is usually small 4-8 GB's instead of Windows's 20+GB's.
