Help On Dual Boot

Hello, I am new to here, i want help about dual boot.. Now i am running on windows 7 64 bit OS. i want win7 32 bit as my dual boot. My systemdoesn't have any cd/dvd drive. So i decided to boot win7 from a USB. For this i had download win7 USB/DVD tool. and i loaded my win7 iso image file (built 7100) into my USB drive. While completing file copying wizard showing a message 'Files copied successfully. However, we were unable to run bootsect to make the USB device bootable'. i download the bootsect.exe file from a blog and copy that into the folder which mentioned in that blog (it was successful when i am installing my stock win 7 64 bit). after that I'm restarted PC and make USB as first boot device.. BUT THIS TIME BLACK SCREEN WITH BLINKING CURSOR make me disappointed. What is the solution for this.? i have adoubt that, the downloaded bootsect.exe file was a zip archive that named bootsect7600x32.zip. the built number differ from mine.. is this the problem? What are the alternative ways? Help me please

Hello and welcome Kichnaz I am just absolutely curious as to why you would want a dual boot 7 in 64 and 32bit forms?? Because the 32bit stuff can be run on a 64bit system unless I am dreadfully mistaken.


The only things I can think of are some AV programs and devices that require 32bit drivers.

Are you sure you didn't mean a dual 7 64bit and a Vista 32bit??

You are correct, Some AV devices Need 32 bit drivers, I have a Hauppauge WinTV Tuner Card. That is the only reason for 32 bit Win7

While i'm installing that driver in 64 bit, it says "its not supported by 64 bit"

Agreed Addy I was thinking too about the activation issue it could get quite complicated eh?

Now the TC tuner why not just get one that takes both?? Hauppauge Computer Works : WinTV-HVR-2250

I know it is extra expense but it would save you an awful lot of mucking around and not to mention disk space

I agree with John, just get an updated card you can use with W7 64 bit.

I mean you have to buy a license for 32 bit if you really wanted to keep it, and that`s a lot more money then buying a card just to watch tv on your pc.

Not to mention the expense of a cable splitter and the cable wire, if you don`t have it.

Please tell us the model card so we can look for the driver.

If you have 4gb or less RAM you may like the way 32 bit runs better anyway, so you'd be right to Dual Boot long enough to decide. Then we can help you remove the one you don't want.

Greg I have already mentioned two cards in posts # 7 & 10 and this is the site for the driver for one of them. The card/s I have referenced run on both 32 and 64bit systems so the OP could install both though I think it is going to cause problems.

Yep thats a point Greg well I think I have done enough now and as those cards both support 32 and 64bit I don't know what else to suggest.

They could be used on either OS version the OP sets up regardless and if that OS is a 32bit system?? then it will not need the 64bit OS as well I mean to me it isn't rocket science unless some TV can only be got via a 32bit OS or via a 64bit OS thats the only reason I can think of why the two OS's would be needed

Understanding dual boot

Helo All,

Here's my first post. I have a Dell D830 with XP Pro 32bit and I would like to go all Win7 but I have some programs currently installed for which I have no re-installation disk. Therefore I figured that I would partition the HDD and install Win7 Pro 64bit on a new partition.

I've never worked with a dual boot and have some questions.

1. How do the two OS's share software and drivers or don't they?
2. If not, do I load a second set of drivers in Win7
3. And do I/can I load programs on both OS's to avoid switching back and forth?
4. Do I/should I do the same for documents?
5. Should there be a third partition for documents?

Yep, that's a lot of questions.
