Help renaming a VolumeID

HI All, I have to remane a HDD VolumeID so a database program of mine can match up with my photos on my new HDD from my old one (I've just rebuilt my PC). My understanding is i can only do this using the Command prompt. I was wondering if someone would be able to kindly guide me through this process. Otherwise I might have to recatalog some 15,000 photos again. I'd rather not. Thanks so much to anyone who can help me. Thanks.

Hi logicearth, I actually tried that program and all it did was blink and then nothing. For some reason, it won't seem to work on my system. Cheers for that anyway.

Hi Lostindigital, welcome to sevenforums. Try this:-
Press "Start", select Programs\Accesories then right click on "Command Prompt". Select to "Run as Administrator". When the command box opens up, type in the following:- "label <drive_letter> {new_label}" and press return. Eg. if the drive you want to name is "d:\" and the required label is "database", then type in, "label d: database" and press return. This should then relabel the d drive as "database"

Hi Wilwombat, the old D drive VolumID was 10A4E4FF and the new one in my PC now is 4A9894E0. I need to change the volumeid to the old one so my program can map it's databse to the images on the new D drive. I tried what you suggested but the command prompt said the sytem cannot find the specified file. Just wondering if I've followed your directions correctly.

Ah, I see, it's the Volume Serial number you want to change and not the Volume ID!! Try going here and download a copy:- Hard Disk Serial Number Changer .

Mate, thanks for that. I usded it and it worked perfectly. Everything with my photos are now linked to the program's database. Cheers for that. That's a gem of a program. Appreciate your help. Have a good one.
