Help Setting Up RAID 0 Array

I was wondering if anyone here has any experience setting up a RAID 0 array on a Gigabyte P35-DS4 mobo? I read the following about running a RAID 0 array to help enhance my Oblivion game play...

Setting up your system to run on a PAIR of very fast SATA hard drives is the first step towards alleviating this problem of massive disk swapping (and its resulting bottlenecks). Those drives should then be configured as a RAID 0 array. Oblivion and your other games should be run entirely from that array. By having a pair of drives operating in tandem, the data can be swapped back and forth at an enormously faster rate and your gameplay will be incredibly improved overall.

Typically with all standard RAID setups, you have an option before Windows is called to take over the booting where you can set up and make changes to your RAID. This is usually either in the BIOS or right after the POST screen before Windows. It's usually pretty quick and involves an F-key to load the settings menu.

I don't have a RAID but as far as I know, you plug in your drives (in pairs or quads, etc etc) and load this settings menu and tell it what you want to create. It should fire away and build the RAID and life is good. Restart, pop in your Windows disk and off you go.

If you are mirroring your data (RAID 1), if one drive fails you are still alive, not gaining much in performance. If you stripe your disks (RAID 0) and create one fatty disk, if one fails, you're not so lucky, unless you do a RAID 5 (RAID 1s full of 0s, SORT OF like a full house in poker), there's more to lose with RAID 1.

HOWEVER, you will see the best performance from a RAID 0 at the cost of potential data loss without a proper backup.

I setup a RAID0 on my Gigabyte P55A-UD3R recently - this is with the AWARD BIOS. I found the motherboard manual was easy to follow, and the process was straight forward. I imagine there isn't much difference between your MOBO and mine.

I can give you a hand if you like. Let me know, and I'll type out the steps, and upload some photo's here to show you what the various screen options will look like in the BIOS. Its quite straight forward really.

Actually thats not a bad idea - I've been looking for something to write up for a tutorial/guide, but almost everything seems taken.

this isn't related to this topic but you mentioned in another thread (programs sometimes don't open) that you resolved the issue. i have the exact same problem with opening programs, can you please tell me how you did it or direct me to the correct website/thread.
