Solved Help to create a regular LAN to share drives/folders - not Home

You're good to go.

Though, it still perplexes me as to why the HomeUsers group's permissions didn't work for you. Are you absolutely sure WorkGroup isn't being used? Strange. You could try and re-setup your HomeGroup and test access levels with a single share using just HomeGroup group entries for permissions. But I guess it's not such a big deal now anyway.

The Network group should be functionally similar. Remember, you can adjust remote user's access to each share easily by jumping into the security tab of a share's path and editing the permissions of the group 'Network'.

I can operate now as before for so many years.

I may try and set up the HomeGroup as you suggest Pyprohly because I too am interested to know what this all happened but I think I may wait until the scares heal

I will double check the perms on all boxes to make sure that we are safe as we need to be.

I have now marked it as solved and wish you both well.

Guess we may trip over each other when we need help on other issues.
