Hello

I have been trying to setup a htpc capable of streaming my movie collection through a xbox360 to my HD Tv using windows media center and media browser. My problem is with the format of the files used for this process. I have been using anydvd and Clone DVD to copy the movie files to my Hdd in .Vob format. I then join the vob files and change the extention of the file to mpg. This works fine sometimes. It copies the movie at the same quality as the original source. The problem is that about 50% of the time the movie will just stop in the middle of playback or even have parts missing. I think that this has to do with the joining of the vob files but I can't put my finger on it. I have tried xilisoft DVD ripper platinum but the video quality is just not the same. I just want to make 1:1 copies of my movies. Btw file size is not an issue. I have 2 2tb hdds. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Apothis,

I have no suggestions for you in regards to the file conversion. I use the same as you and I'm not happy with it. So I look forward to what others may post.

However, is it an option for you to stream the vob files directly to your XBOX? You can use a number of programs for this. I'm pretty sure that TVersity does it and is free.

BTW - Is this what you are doing at the moment?

No I am not using tversity. I tried it but It didn't work that well for me. I couldn't get transcode 360 to work. Yes I am doing something very similar to the tutorial that you liked to.

I have been using DVDFab to rip DVD's and Blu-Rays for Media Center and they work great.

I do not know what file format DVDFab rips them in, but it does give me the option of 60% quality or 100% quality. I have only used the 100% quality for all my ripping. So far I have not had any issues yet. This is on a brand new HTPC build as well (1 week old) and I installed Windows 7 x64 and did all the windows updates.

I use MakeMKV but even with 6TBs of space, I have a LOT of video and use Handbrake to convert them to high quality MP4s that consume around 3.5gbs and I defy the average person to tell the difference.

Unless you have a ginormous TV (I have a 55") and very shadowy movies, the quality is great.
