Hi everyone,

I recently bought an HP Pavillion notebook which has windows 7 home premium (64 bit) and came installed with .net 4. I need to install 3.5 for a software program and thought I had done that when I first got the computer. So I checked today and i have the.exe setup file, so tried the install. First, it seemed to work but then a message popped up that said it may not have installed correctly. There was an option to reinstall and troubleshoot, so i did that and it seemed to have worked. However, when I go into my programs, only .net 4 is there - still no .net 3.5. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Dot Net Framework 3.5 is installed with Windows 7, it comes with it right out of the box. It won't be listed under installed updates because its installed with windows 7. You can't un-install it. You can turn it off though. If you go to Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on and off, you should see a "Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1" entry.

Without hijacking may I ask if it is correct for my .Net Framework 3.5.1 in Windows Features to have a filled box meaning only part of the feature is turned on? In this case clicking the + sign indicates Windows Communication Foundation HTTP Activation and Windows Communication Non-HTTP Activation are not checked and therefore not turned on. Doing some searching shows it may not be possible to enable these without first uninstalling .Net Framework 4.0.

Should I try to activate these?

Thats interesting now that you mention it, my check box is shaded blue and the two items you listed are un-checked? I do have Dot Net 4 installed. I see a couple of other blue boxes and some with no check marks in them for other items on that screen. My guess is if they were needed they would be turned on. It probably depends on what other Microsoft apps you have installed. I'm just going to leave things the way they are.
