Help with Skype and Teamspeak needed

Okay, I am in the UK and I have a friend in Australia and in the past we have frequently used Skype and Teamspeak 3 so we can ridicule each other whilst playing online golf !! However, something has happened and we can no longer chat as he cannot hear me any more.

We both use Windows 7 and both have the most recent version of Skype and Teamspeak 3 and both use headsets that are in full working order. I am not the most savvy with this stuff but I am as certain as I can be that all is well at my end. I can hear music through my headset and I have tested my microphone and know it is okay. I have also spoken with 2 other friends on Skype perfectly well with no issues whatsoever. I can hear my friend perfectly well on both Skype and Teamspeak 3.

Despite a knock to his PC, where the jacks for his headset go, he is able to hear his own voice when he tests his mic and he is able to listen to music through his headphones. He has used the Echo/Sound Test Service on Skype and all is well. This leads me to believe that there is a simple setting somewhere on Windows that needs to be altered but so far as I have been able to assess, we both have the same settings. He is also able to speak with others on Skype with no issues.

The only other thing I have read is that there may be a potential conflict with the security software. I believe that he used to use AVG and I did read that there were potential issues but he has since swapped and now uses MSE, the same as I do.

He took his PC into his local shop and the guy seems to think all is well but it obviously isn't and I am now out of ideas. Is there anyone out there who can help ?

You both can install TeamViewer and test your ability to communicate via that app. If need be, you can take control of his computer and look around at the settings. You can also swap controls and he can see your computer/settings.

Many thanks. Although I was unsure my mate would agree, he did and Teamviewer enabled me to make a direct comparison which highlighted a simple settings change which was connected to my sound card software.

The settings I had were the same as they have been for the last couple of years, from the time I installed my sound card. Recent updates must have resulted in a simple change that I hadn't noticed.

Problem now solved.
