Hi,

I have just got a new machine running Win 7. I have an issue with VPN I hope someone can help me with.

When I VPN into my office I can send email from outlook, and browse the web with no issues. Hoever I get no incoming email into outlook on my system. I also ntice at the bottom right on the wireless symbol I have a meesage that says unidentified network and no internet access when I am VPN connected, despite the fact I can send email and browse.

Can anyone help me fix the incoming problem. I have disabled MS firewall and have no other firewall running.

thanks for any help

Hi Lebroy, Welcome to SevenForums!

It sounds like the VPN is using a default gateway which causes your local machine to use the remote machine's internet access for it's own internet access. In order to stop this, use the solution on the bottom given that you have your company's WINS Servers IP Address(es).

This usually happens when the subnet at the remote location is the same as the local subnet (e.g. both subnets are 192.168.0). Post again if you need more detailed instructions.

That sounds like the split tunnel issue. See this Cable Guy article for an explanation including the potential security issues if you enable split tunneling. You can configure the built-in VPN connection to disable that, ie. give you access to the VPN tunnel and the local LAN/internet by UNCHECKING the Use default gateway on remote network checkbox.

This is the possible solution:

1. Opening properties for the VPN connection
2. Clicking the networking tab
3. Selecting Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and clicking properties
4. Click advanced button
5. On the IP Settings tab, turned off Use Default Gateway on Remote Network.
6. On the WINS tab, entered the IP addresses of your WINS servers in the office.
