This forum could not help me with my missing or corrupted CD/DVD drivers for Windows 7. They suggested a repair install of Windows 7. That is not the correct way to fix this problem. Windows Technicians; You failed in your attempt to help me with my missing or corrupted CD and DVD drivers. A computer repair shop told me the fix. Here is the fix:

Regedit.... HKLM/SYSTEM/CCS/CONTROL/CLASS/4D36E965-08002BE10318
Delete..... Upper and Lower Filters

Simple fix and it worked.
Why did you not tell me this fix!

You do realize that we VOLUNTEER our opinions here don't you.

If you had posted this as a helpful tip instead of bashing the whole forum because your solution was not remedied right away, you would find that there are people here that do know what they are talking about.

I apologize...

Sorry for the bashing... Of the people who answer these forum questions are there any who work for Microsoft? I was under the impression that the technical questions we ask here were reviewed by Microsoft Engineers. That is why I was surprised that the answer was not here immediately. Is the fix I reported not on Microsoft's website?
I just figured that the top experts on Windows 7 driver problems were answering questions in this forum. But I guess all are welcome to answer questions in these forums, so I understand why I might not get the definitive answer immediately.
The repair shop I asked about this problem had a sheet of paper on the wall next to the counter that had this Regedit fix on it. He told me the problem was so prevalent that he decided to post it on the wall rather than charge customers to do the Regedit for them. So I ask again, if this corrupted DVD driver is such a common problem, why does Microsoft not have a direct link to this fix? And why didn't anyone on this forum not know this?
I expected this forum, being so specific (Win 7/drivers) would be the final word on this fix. By the way, for anyone who needs computer help, the technician who had this fix works for Central Computers in San Francisco.

a) this is really old news ( Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs )
b) we are no windows technicians, we try to help to the best of our knowledge
c) you are not a nice person, suggest you review your manners and do some useful work on this forum

Sorry, please read my apology.

Also, if you scroll to the top of this page you get the impression (RE: The Official Windows 7 Logo) that you are on Microsoft's website and that this is the "Last Word" on fixing problems with Win 7 drivers. Where are the Microsoft Employees on the web?
Shouldn't Microsoft have it's own people helping with these forums?

I'm sure there are people from microsoft that come here but this forum is not affiliated with microsoft. I'm also sure that someone here knew about that fix but probably never saw your post.
Read the bottom of this page and it will tell you that this is an independent forum.

Microsoft has their own people in the Fix It group and they do a very good job. Microsoft Fix it Solution Center
And derekimo is right. many of us knew this fix that has been around for half a year now. But not everybody is around 24/7. There are many threads where this fix was recommended (myself recommending it at least half a dozen times) and had you done a bit of research, you would have found them.

Thanks, I'm just getting to know my way around forums. It wasn't clear to me where and how I would search this forum for previous notations on this fix. I usually just read the "Sticky" posts at the top of the forum to find tutorials or direction. I am not sure how to search for specific posts with previous fixes yet. Is there a tutorial I can read on how to gleam info from earlier posts?

That logo in the upper right corner may favor the official 7 logo, but it is not. This is the official logo of Win7.

And thank you for your apology and the change in your attitude. I hope that you will monitor the new posts and if you see one with this problem, feel free to share your solution. Fortunately, I have not had that problem and I did not know the solution; but now I have learned - as I usually do when I read through this forum.
