Hi, how many of you have finally done it?

Hello Saverio, and welcome to the forum

I have also been using 7 for the past weeks, it has not been problem free, maybe due to mistakes by myself, :) but there have also been no problems that I could not sort out.

There will be no going back for me, and my only problem will be what to do with all the copies of Vista that I have ;)

Hi,
my first install was a dual-boot with XP pro. I didn'n expect to keep 7, so I simply chose a free 10GB partition to try it.
As it turned out, 7 worked great. (where my notebook + Vista RC1 = hell on earth )

So I decided to give the official beta build a more comfy home^^
Single booting now. I'm Using the XP disk as ext. USB-storage.
Basically, since it's a XP install with the USB modifications, I could run it from there, but I never bothered to try it; there was simply no need for it (so far).

Being a Vista 'hater' from the word 'GO', I was very wary about Windows 7, I need not have worried, as I now use it as my 'main' OS 24/7 :D Stable as a rock and undergoing some heavy overclock testing day by day.

WOW !:D

Thanks everyone for the great welcome and response!

Well you gus and gals have made my mind up!

I've had a copy of vista Ultimate x64 ready to install, and downloaded all my device drivers for it, so hopefully it should all be good to go.

I've got the apps I use now with vista ready versions and where possible x64 versions.

I dont really have any games just lots of 3d modelling and cad software which are all certified vista ready and compatible, so that should be cool :D

I've been saving a nice 15K scsi drive for this so hopefully since Se7en has been stripped of some of it's flab, it should hopefully boot like a rocket!

Also I've been reading that it's got a feature that allows people with poor eyesight to still use large resolution monitors buy adjusting font sizes within all apps and windows - my partner has poor eyesight and at the moment we use a resolution manager to allow her user profile to load at 786 x 1024 instead of the monitor's native 1200 x 1600.
If this is the case, then it beats apples equivalent hands down :D

Anyway thanks for the votes of confidence, you've made my mind up for me!

I'm reading a lot about 'builds' when the software updates do you get the latest build release or are you stuck on the one you downloaded initially?

System 1: MSI mobo, 2GB RAM, AMD 64 X2 4200+ 2.2GHz, 544GB (several HDDs), GeForce 6200.
I had Vista Ultimate installed, always used it, I am one of those people who loved Vista since I was tired of XPs GUI. So one day, I started browsing for the next Windows just out of curoisity, and Google returned results for Windows 7. So I went looking on here for the current version (because I looked for a Windows 7 forum, and this place was first on the list). Once I found the current version I downloaded it from Rapidshare. I dual booted it with Vista. It was Build 6801 (my favorite build). So I kept using it, and using it, and loved it. So when 7000 came out, I deleted the 6801, and upgraded Vista to 7 build 7000. No problems since. I love it. Main OS on my Desktop. BUT yesterday, I deleted that build to put Windows Home Server on it.

System 2: Dell Inspirion E520 (something like that) AMD 64 X2 @ 2.0GHz, 1GB RAM, 160GB SATA HDD.
My father in laws system. He's running 7000. No problems to date, I just wish he would merge his Vista and Seven for more stablilty.

System 3: HP 6735s. AMD Turion X2 @ 2.4GHz, 2.5GB RAM, 160GB HDD, Radeon HD 3200 256MB dedicated - 1052MB shared.
My laptop. For school. Came with Vista Business. I installed Seven clean over it from the start. I have a OEM Vista disc that came with it in case.

I use WHS to backup ALL files, so if I need to upgrade clean, or if something messes up, I can use the server to retrieve backups.

So 7 was the main OS on two machines, but now it's main OS on one, and dual boot on another.

Hi all.

I am dual booting with winxp and windows 7, with the odd linux distro making a guest appearance.

The more time i spend with win7 the better i am appreciating it.
In fact i have got to the point where i find that i hardly bother to boot into xp anymore.

Which considering this o.s is just in beta is an indication of how good the final release will be.

I am dual booting Vista and 7 and for the last 3 days, since I got the HD Channels working in the Windows 7 Media Center. I have been hooked to the Windows 7 install, but I will have to go back to Vista to do some thing I cannot do on 7. I will be looking to upgrade to Windows 7 when it is out to the public for sale or possible get a free version, from some promotion like I did with my Vista Business copy and Office 2007 copy's. Windows 7 is what Vista should of been in my opinium, and Microsoft would of did much better with the release .

Windows 7 feels like an aluminum bodied car with an old V8 engine that's been retrofitted with turbo chargers and cool body paint :D

Apart from WMP12 library issues and quick launch missing, Windows 7 feels polished out of the box. Am using W7 as my main OS and loaded all my usual Vista x64 progs, so far, it's just feels nice to work with especially when you don't have to worry about the OS crapping out on you when you do your normal tasks.

If you've enjoyed your vista experience or not :D, you'll definitely fall for this new puppy from Microsoft and with this forum helping you out with problems you may or have encountered, there's nothing to fuzz about.

Hi

Like allot here, I use Win7 as my main OS now but I keep Vista as my dual boot and I will until Win7 becomes an RTM.
Since W7 is still a Beta, a stable and useable one but a BETA after all, I'll keep Vista useable in case a Clean install of a newer W7 beta build goes bad or "burps" and decides to muck things up. I don't anticipate that happening from what I've experienced so far with W7, but we must remember this is still in Beta and anything can happen.
I find it a bit premature to be relying solely on a Beta OS as an Only OS, so until W7 is mature enough for RC1 (at least), I'll have Vista ready to boot into if needed.

Desktop is running dual boot Windows 7 & XP, & I use XP as the main OS.

I use XP mainly on my desktop because I perform tech work & testing HDD's, some software has issues with 7 & most everthing I use is built for XP. Windows 7 is to me a better OS no doubt, but when its finally released I will make the switch with no problem. My laptop is fun to test with & 7 like my laptop or so I think.
