When I copy files from any hard drive or external medium the files encrypt themselves and after i have copied the file to my PC i have to decrypt it and it wastes a lot of time. And when i decrypt it , it takes up a lot of resources in the process causing my other programs to lag heavily. i basically want to know how to switch off all encryption on my PC in a way my system wont get damaged but in a way that it will work for sure.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

This must be because the destination folder is set to encrypt files on it's own.

Follow these steps:
  1. Right-click on the destination folder.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. In the Attributes section, click Advanced.
  4. Un-tick the box thay says Encrypt contents to secure data.
  5. Press Apply and OK.

If you are still having the problem, post back.

problem not solved

I understand the settings of encryption on a file however the solution is not so simple the file encrypts regardless of where you copy or paste the file to so I need to switch off the function that causes files to be encrypted whenever it is moved from an external medium to my pc.

could be some kind of setting within windows I am missing.

assistance will be appreciated.

I am not sure that I follow...

There are solutions that forces encryption for removable storage devices, from the PC to the USB flash disk for example. These solutions are more and more prevalent on corporate systems and usually locked down from end users disabling it.

The reverse of this, removable storage to PC local drive copy/paste, usually caused by the destination folder being encrypted, as techhead stated, or EFS/Bitlocker forces the file encryption. Copy/pasting files outside of this system, be that to network share and/or USB flash drive, is in plain text and should not be encrypted. Unless Bitlocker to go had been activated for removable storage devices.

So, what is the actual direction of the copy/paste you were referring to?

How i go about copying is as follows. I copy a file from an external hard drive but the file is not yet encrypted on the hard drive itself i then go ahead and copy the file from the hard drive and paste it on my desktop. The file is then encrypted by my windows automatically. The file letters appear in green as you most likely already know once it is on the pc itself and the properties show that it is encrypted a swell.I have to then decrypt it. I don't have any problems in doing so as my system sees me as a valid person to decrypt it.

So long story short, how do i go about disabling the encryption that causes the files to encrypt automatically.

Are those files coming from an Apple system? If they are, maybe this link could help you...
