Hi
Im trying to get my Hibernate working again
once I click Hibernate the computer screen goes black for 2-3 seconds then goes right to the login screen
it had been working for years after some random updates and installations it stopped working a week or two ago (I think this is the reason it stopped working?)
and for some reason "Sleep" works fine still
I have tried all the solutions I can find online to get it working again
(using cmod to turn on and off hibernate...
changing the "power options"...
I set my C: drive as "Active" in disk management...
ive tried sfc /scannow with no errors...
using "Diskpart" for various solutions...
trying to uninstall all the recent updates...
to now installing all the latest Windows / GPU / BIOS updates...
I also tried "System Restore" but it came up with an error and somehow deleted all my system restore points after that...)

please help get my computer back to Hibernating again
thanks

Hibernate saves what you have on memory on the disk and shutdown. How much free disk space you have?
Up to 4G of memory you should install Win 7 32. You should install Win 7 only if you have more than 4G.
- I see that you have only 2G of memory and W7 ultimate 64. As W7 ultimate 64 is heavy, you're going to face a lot of problems.
So my suggestion would be to install more memory (at least 2+2G) or do a Win 7 32 clean install. Clean Install Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums

If you want to fix your current installation, do a Repair Install - Windows 7 Help Forums

For the updates, use the offline from SP2 and security only updates. MS releases SP2 for Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums

Sorry I haven't posted in a long time and my system was outdated
I updated it
also I have another HDD with Windows 7 installed on it and when I booted into that HDD I can Hibernate without problem
so it seems to definitely be software related
thanks

Related to your HDD space, not software. As Megahertz07 indicated:

Hibernation is a power-saving state designed primarily for laptops. While sleep puts your work and settings in memory and draws a small amount of power, hibernation puts your open documents and programs on your hard disk and then turns off your computer.

Normally hyberfil.sys is on C:\
Try to set hibernate off then back to on
On a CMD window type: powercfg -h off
reboot
On a CMD window type: powercfg -h on
reboot

powercfg /? for options
