High Pings in Windows 7 gaming?

Only disable it if your not using wireless.

Just set WLan Autoconfig to manual...that might fix your issues

Well I'm using a wireless network at home so I kind of need to use that .

I'm not sure what the OP is using but perhaps he should try disabling his wireless network and see if that helps.

I'm currently not at home so I'll have to try disabling my wireless adapter and try plugging my network cable directly into my computer.

P.S. How can I set the configuration to manual?

Well I disabled WLAN Autoconfig on my desktop since it turns out it isn't on the wireless networks anyhow.

I jumped on Diablo II to test it and it works perfectly. No more freeze lag!

Right click on my computer, select Manage.
Expand Services and Applications.
Highlight Services
Double click on WLAN AutoConfig
Press Stop button
In Startup type, select Disabled

I disabled WLAN AutoConfig and I am still getting these high pings its always been playable even with these 110 - 150 pings but it rly isn't that great if you want to do great in a game...anyone know any other solutions or anything? it just really sucks to know I should be getting a 60 - 80 ping and im stuck with a above 110 and have the highest ping in almost ever server I play in.

I'm wired to my router then to a cable modem. I notice now that PB works for COD4 my pings in COD4 are almost about the same as they were under XP.

I did in fact install the "Speed Guide Vista TCP/IP Patch" and let it optimize my parameters however. You can find this at SpeedGuide.net :: TCP Optimizer / Downloads. Might need to register for a free account to download.

I have downloaded the patch but it downloads in a text file sorry for being stupid about this, I just don't know to much about commands, thanks. And I ran the TCP Optimizer and I notice a slight improvement their is some servers were I can get under 100 ping in counter strike sometimes down to 80 but the majority is still above 100 ping+ and in particular there is a server I like playing on CS:S, I would get about a 75 ping or lower on and it and it hasn't improved any on ping I seem to get my highest ping jumps on this server and it happens to be my favorite and most played server...Never had a problem with ping when I ran vista ran pretty close to my ping in xp but still vista didn't preform as well because it can tend to be a memory hog and I only have 2 gb of ram and not the greatest video card, so vista didn't do so much for me.

S'ok... the patch file is a 'batch command' file that has to be run. Open a Windows Explorer and navigate to the directory where you saved the patch file. Right-click on the patch file and select 'Run as administrator'. A Command Prompt application will open up with the patch file running in it. In that Command Prompt window, press 'y' like it says in the displayed information to "optimize Vista TCP/IP settings".

I also tried TCP Optimizer since I used it on XP. Unfortunately some of the details of the TCP IP stack have been changed between XP and Vista/Win7 such that TCP Optimizer does not fully work any more. It will appear to make the optimization changes to the registry but the TCP/IP stack software doesn't use the same parameters as XP did and thus you don't see as much adjustment in your ping as you did under XP.

thanks for the help for some reason when I would right click it from the site and save it it would just be a text file, i just went to notepad and copyed and pasted it and saved it as a .cmd file, gonna test it out thanks

same here stayed the same i wonder if their will ever be a fix or not only thing I dislike about windows 7 for me is this issue =[..their are some servers were I can keep under 100 but i stayed under 100 in pretty much every server when I had vista or xp.

A silly question, but did you reboot the computer after disabling WLAN Autoconfig service. I think i read somewhere that you should restart windows after configuring services in order for the changes to come into effect.

Also, some firewalls/security suits interfere with online games if they are not configured correcty ( blocked ports etc).

Try checking your network adaptor settings. Often people need to turn offload check sum off and force the network card to run at a set speed ie not auto negotiate. Check your settings in device manager.

Well I don't have a wireless connection and I still get these issues.

And I also rebooted the computer, still no effect.

I have no firewall currently.

are you playing cs 1.6 with or without vertical sync? i had the same problem you are having.. playing without vertical sync allows for 99fps but random spikes when you get into a fire fight.

i re-enabled my vertical sync and my ping is solid but im capped at 60fps

I'm playing without vertical sync because I mostly play the kreedz mod so I need good timing with my bunnyhops and strafes That's why I need to have the 99fps.
