Hi all.


I have a ATI Radeon 4670 card running on Catalyst. I've connected my LCD Tv throught the secondary DVI output with HDMI cable, transmitting both audio and video.

I want to get a home cinema system wich i could use with my PC for music and video, and also for use with the IPTV (connected to TV via SCART). I'm aware that i could use the Mobo's onboard optical out connected to the Home Cinema, but i feel it's redundant since the HDMI is already bearing audio


Any suggestions?

Most audio receivers or surround sound signal processors today have HDMI input for audio and video, this allows all the source components to feed signals to the receiver via HDMI or other connections. You would then hook the HDMI output up to your Phillips TV. The other way of getting audio to the receiver is by running the audio outs from the TV to the receiver. This however isn't ideal for the best sonics.

That's the thing, most Home Theaters i look at only have HDMI outputs, no inputs. A guy at a local electronics store said that mostly or only high-end home theater amplifiers have hdmi input. If you know about decent home theaters capable of throughput, feel free to send some links my way.

Also, would Catalyst still detect my TV even with an intermediary device between?

You mentioned running audio outs from the TV. Is that a possibility?

Those things look incredibly sweet but they really are way, way more than I need. I have no use for 16 audio outputs and 6 HDMI. I just need some sort of solution or suggestion to a amplifier/speaker set, preferably 5.1. Specifically, I need an overview of what options I have with the aforementioned specs.

Perfect the products are out there I would do my due diligence and find several products in my price range. Consider the speakers you want to use and what they require from a power stand point. Look for products that have wide dynamic headroom. This means that even if they tout lower per channel wattage they will give much more for short peaks of high demand. The use of a high quality sub-woofer will take a huge power demand away from the main, center and surround speakers. Factor in some money for quality interconnects and speaker cables or add them later as money allows but they will make a noticeable difference. If other questions come up just ask. Cheers, the Cheese
