I have 3 computers and an Android phone. I would like all to update across my network and on the road. I'm using Office 2000 and 2003...would setting up my own exchange server enable this to happen?

You don't really necessarily to have your own Exchange Server running which can complicate things. A cloud exchange solution can do this. Have you checked on Office 365? It's affordable.... You may share files, setup emails and do everything remotely 24/7.
