Home group will not allow password change and connection.

Hi,
Having problems with Home group Windows 7. One computer says I'm joined but when I try to log on with the user name and password it fails. I did a time coordination on both computers and have temporally turned off the firewall to see if that's it but that didn't work. I can see all the computers on the Network and than tried to change the password. It would not let me change the password and says that I can't create a home group. It does show a password when I request it.

Are you trying to log in on Compuer1 with credentials from Computer2? Because you can't do that with Homegroup.

I see that I'm joined with my main computer running Windows 7 Home Premium but unable to join in Windows 7 Ultimate student version, do I have to be logged in as administrator?

You don't have to be logged in as an admin, but you will need admin credentials to join a computer to Homegroup, i.e. when you try joining - a popup will prompt for admin credentials.

I'm not sure what exactly are you trying to do. So here are a few things:

• If you can see the other computers in the Network, then you have joined the Homegroup.
• As noted earlier, you can not log on to one computer with the credentials from another, like you would do at a school or business, for example.
• If you want to see files on another computer - you have to share those files first on the computer where the files are located.

On both computers I see both computers so they are both on a Home group, one says I'm joined the other says it's available to join. When I try to enter the password to join it rejects the joining.

Do you see them under the Homegroup tab or Network tab? If you see them when you click on Homegroup - then they have joined the homegroup, if you don't, but see them under Network, then you need to join the computer to the homegroup.
Get the password for the homegroup from the computer that has already joined the homegroup and enter it in the one that you wish to join.

At the top of home group on computer 1 it says that this computer belongs to home group and computer 2 it says that computer 1 has created a home group and it ask to join but when I try to join it refutes the password and says the computer cannot join home group. Also when I try to change the password on computer 1 it says I can't join home group contradicting what it says that computer 1 has already created a home group. I can see all the computers on the Network.

I would leave the homegroup on computer 1 so it deletes the homegroup.
Then create a new homegroup on computer 2 and see how that works.

It happens sometimes. Go to computer1, leave the homegroup and create a new one, then try joining computer2 with the new password.
