Hot Corners

preview.png

This app I made for fatedquest, but I thought I would share it with everyone.

What it does is it lets you set anything you can run (programs, files, directories, websites, control panel items, etc.) to be ran when you put your mouse at any one of the four corners of the screen. Simple as that.

You can choose to use all four corners, 2 of them, 3 of them, whatever. Each corner has its own text box for the path of the file/program/website/whatever. If you leave the text box blank, it doesn't do anything when you move your mouse to that corner.

Download: View attachment Hot Corners.zip
Note: Some virus scanners detect this as a virus. It isn't, but if you are unsure, either ask your fellow peers here about it, or just don't use it. :p

Crash bug: If you don't put in a completely correct path/address, the app will crash when you move your mouse to that corner. For a little more info, read the documentation in the zip folder.

See here for a temporary solution to using the hot corners to trigger key presses.

Enjoy. :)

Thanks alot for writing this program. I love it, it's exactly what I am looking for. You should set up a paypal account and put it on your deviantart page. Then we could contribute to you.

Btw, it would be cool if you could add the ability to simulate keypresses natively. Right now I'm using a workaround with vbscript.

For those interested, you can simply create a text file and save it as test.vbs. Write in following lines in it
Code:
Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")

WshShell.SendKeys "{enter}"
Replace enter with the keys you want. Lookup the syntax here

You might want to use this program with,
-Flip 3D
-Flip 2D
-Vista Switcher
-Other Expose Programs
-Back previous shortcut for your web browser
-Next previous tab
-Global music player shortcuts

The list goes on.

Btw, those guys who like to mod their Windows to look like a Mac are surely gonna rave over this.

I am thinking of an effective way of implementing key presses. Right now the corners trigger a "run" command, which will pull up an error if you type anything that you can't run... so I'll work on this.

I'm not sure if you'll be actively developing this program or not (I sure hope you do though), but here is somethings I've noticed.

When I click on the settings button, my previous settings will be lost.

I have to put the path in quotes, like "C:\Windows" instead of C:\Windows. Not that I mind, just pointing out.

Thanks, fated. I'll look into this.

EDIT: Now the text boxes input the last settings used. I'll release that update when I get keypresses down.

Handy app. be nice to see how this comes along...
One question though, why does it chew 20% of cpu time when its not doing anything?

Never noticed that. Scripting language, I guess. It's running on a loop that checks if the mouse hits the pixels at the very corners constantly, so that's probably it.

Thank you, sir (Dennis if you prefer :p).

I've been slowly convincing my parents to let me set up a PayPal account and link it to their bank account for some extra cash, but they're apprehensive... as I could understand. 14 year old kid with access to thousands of dollars... not good. ;)

Have them set you up a separate account in their name and yours. Put a couple of hundred dollars in it and link the PayPal account to that one. The complies with all the legalities and does not touch their main account.

My parents are also very apprehensive of letting me have my own bank account (more lazy than anything, in my opinion) and I don't have any money at all... :(
