How can i remove my Western Digital CASE i want to take the hard disk and plug it into my Pc and see if i can view my files cause i don't want to lost them

Hello Alexjames,

Depending on which one you have, check these links, different cases require different methods.
Mine for instance would be the last one.

Just remember to have a sata and sata power lead free to hand when its out.

If this is an external hard drive why not just connect it to your PC with the USB cable? If it is internal then I assume it has come from another machine. If that is the case, why did you need to remove it from the other machine?

It's probably not working so he wants to see if it will work in the PC.
sometimes the controller on the enclosure can go bad while the drive inside is fine.

Hi,

Something to try first (if it is able to run):

Open a CMD window, and run as administrator. Change to F: (your USB drive). Type chkdsk /f and hit enter. Post the results here when you have finished.

Sometimes if you take the drive apart and set the platters on a black cloth you can view the files with a strong set of reading glasses. The only downside to this is 2 fold ,

1) The drive will have no warranty

2) you would have displayed a level of incompetence second to none and should just go back to pen paper and a file cabinet.

Ok seriously . It has to be self evident how to open the enclosure it has to snap together or more likely then not be held with screws ,, or have you googled that specific model enclosure and looked how to open it that way ?

Golden i did this and it was saying that my drive got errors again and it sayid to click N/O to link the damaged files i dont know what is that anyway i didnt click it cause i was scared what this going to do any suggestions

Try a chkdsk (WITHOUT the /f switch) and run that - it wont make any changes to your files. Post the results here please.

Dismantling your hard drive wont fix this issue if its a problem with the file structure, so I wouldn't try that just yet.

I don't think taking the drive apart will help. Clearly it is being recognised so why not try a recovery software. Recuva would be a good start. You are best using the deep scan. The software is free and I have had very good results with it. Download it from here;

I would try this before the more invasive method of dismantling the drive. One false move and you are done for whereas Recuva may not work but it will do no harm!

i tried everything and recuva! but nothing happened golden it says that the disk checked and that i need to press N/O to link them i dont know why and how can i do that that all i got from the report a friend told me that its a god idea to remove tha case and see if i can plug it to my pc and view the files again

When you tried Recuva what do you mean"Nothing happened"? How long did it take to scan your disc and what message did you get?
