Solved How can I transfer an 8gig file from Windows pc to Mac?

I have an 8gig program that is hybrid install for both OS. I am not sure how to break the iso into to smaller parts and burn them. Can I transfer it to my thumb drive? What will the format need to be so it will transfer the large ISO to Mac? I intend to "mount" it on the Mac when I get it over. Thanks for your help

do I have to format the thumb drive in fat32? If I do, and that's the only format I can use, are you allowed to transfer files that large? Something about fat32 only allowing smaller file sizes?

Hi RoloDman,

The maximum file size for FAT32 is 4GB so that isn't an option.

7zip has the functionality to split files every X MB/GB. Install 7z, right click on your file, add to archive..., then on this menu, specify 7z to split the archive every 3GB or so. Transfer each piece via a flash drive, then to extract it, just right click the FIRST part and use 7z to extract it.

Alternatively, you could transfer it using a NTFS formatted external hard drive. Or even over your local network

Yeah, 7-Zip has loads of features, I keep finding new ones!

If this is a Cross Platform program there should be a DMG file for using it on a Mac. That is the only file you need to copy over to the Mac.

7-zip can also open an .iso file and can extract files from ISO selectivey.

Right click on ISO file and go to 7-zip context menu and select the first "open archive" menu. 7-zip program will open the ISO and show the files. You may go to the 7-zip's View menu and select 2 panels (or press F9). The files in the ISO will open on one side and your C: or D: drive will be shown on other side. Using the Copy button you may extract the selected files from ISO to a folder on your HDD.

As per edwar if there is file with DMG extension inside the ISO file, you may extract only that file to a flash drive and copy it to the MAC. Or you may extract all the files in a folder and split them manually to fill a smaller flash drive and copy to MAC.
