first off, no one is perfect. as long as you can get a point across, I don't mind if it is not 100% grammatically correct nor if the spelling is 100% correct. but in saying that, the original poster must first be open and respectful enough to take criticism and instruction if someone else cannot make out the post because of grammar and spelling.

what i've seen in other posts--even in here--is that people immediately get critical when someone makes a comment about the spelling or grammar. people have to remember that there are people from all over the world who visit here and that english may not be their first language. so, to reiterate, the original poster has to be considerate enough to take criticism on his or her own post if no one else can understand because of grammar and spelling.

lastly, and most importantly, i believe that most of the people here believe that you catch more flies with honey rather than with vinegar. meaning, if you are courteous and respectful, you'll get it in return and you'd be more apt to get the help and assistance you're looking for.

I thought it was the first and the last. But if you have a German text like this, it is more difficult without caps: "Tragbares Büro, mobiles Kino, Disco zum Mitnehmen".

I really don't want this to be taken the wrong way:huh:
I'm just curious about the "irritating" thing about no caps? Structurally and grammatically my sentences are correct--aren't they?

It has been more of an "informal style" for me. Obviously, I wouldn't hand in an assignment like this, but in our forum, for me, informal works. And, for my "informal style," I have found that I can type faster without using the shift key. I'm not a one-finger-one-key-pecker-typer--on a good roll, I can consistently stay around 50 w.p.m.--numbers and the shift key slow me down, thus, I have avoided them when in this informal place.

But for the sake of not being irritating, I will use the necessary and required capitalization, as I stated a few posts ago. And again, I hope my reply will not be taken the wrong way. Just curious.

The Seven Forums is quite international and as far as I've noticed, we non-English speakers are doing quite well in staying in English in accordance to the forum rules.

Even you used the capital 'I' once when you felt it is important ('I don't mind if it is not'). Sometimes it really is important to use capitals: Seven is an OS, seven is a number, People is a magazine, people is us, the people, Frank is a name, frank is being sincere, only to mention some.

It is of course a matter of personal choice. You are entitled to type as you like. I am not criticizing, I just told my opinion. To me it is quite important to try to make my text as clear as possible, although because of English being a foreign language to me I've noticed I make some quite idiotic grammatic mistakes.

Kari, what are you talking about?!?! You do a beatiful job writing in English. If Americas youth had half the grammatical skills you do, I would actually be able to understand them...LOL

Very well stated.

I was only inquiring and I had hoped that I wasn't taken the wrong way. As the poster above me stated, I have never had any problem with your English and how you use it to state and to relate your ideas.

I didn't take your criticism harshly either. You may have been the person who help the next non-native-English speaker to be able to understand what I've been attempting to say for a while , but that person may have not wanted to say anything for fear that I might jump ballistic.

To criticize, one must be open to criticism--right?

(Oh, but I must disagree with one point--I never type all of my thoughts into one big giant paragraph. that would be confusing for everyone)
