Solved How do I activate an upgrade disk that was used for a fresh install?

Hi, I used an upgrade disk for windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit version. I can not use the activation code since it gives me the error that the code is upgrade only. I have been running off the grace period and I'm wondering if there is a way for me to make it genuine without having to reinstall windows completely.

The installed Key is neither the Default, nor a valid Key - it's one from a Hewlett-Packard Recovery disk.

An Upgrade license is only valid when you have a valid FULL license to upgrade from.
This machine is based on a brand new retail motherboard, so the question must be asked - from which version and edition of Windows are you upgrading?
