How do I confirm that my CPU cooler speed is variable ?

Hi,

I have re-seated my CPU stock cooler because of over dust particles in my room.. Applied thermal paste... and connected to the four pins slot in the motherboard... Now I want to confirm my CPU cooler is running at variable speed. A simple doubt started in my mind is that, whether I connected the cooler's pin to the motherboard correctly (as its both sides were same) also want to clarify that I connected right ... plz help...

Room temp: 34 C

CPU temp: 35 C

On the MB near the processor the pins will say CPU thats the one to plug it into.Also go in bios to adjust the settings there , but from your cpu temps (cpu 35c) it looks like you are good to go.Remember the temp will not get cooler than the air temp in room.

I stressed my CPU by opening a program... now the fan speed varies to 2385 to 2545 ... and CPU temp from 34 C to 39 C ... so my fan speed is variable... Am i right ?

Your BIOS will give you the best reading. There are also settings you can use to change the speed.

Those temps are low so it's still on idle. need to get to above 50C or so to speed up the fan on most standard Bios settings.

I'm currently encoding a movie. My CPU is running at 59C. CPU fan 1921 RPM. Case fan 1982. Ambient 42C

The utility Fanspeed shows min and max by hovering the curser over fans. I believe it's an older utility and not as detailed as HWMonitor.

You can go to BIOS or dowload speedfan to monitor the fan speed of the cooler actually. Then you can play around with the setting to see if the fan is moving up and down.

Forgot to mention, the rig I'm using to encode a movie is an old XP machine, with single core processor. Pentium 4 Prescott Core (P4). They run hot!
