Solved How do I connect second eithernet cable to PC

Good morning all, I am looking for suggestions.



I want to connect a second Ethernet cable to my PC so I can monitor the performance of the amplifier in my home HI-FI. I have installed the necessary software on my computer and run the Cat7 cable, but I can only use it if I unplug the Ethernet cable going to the modem, thus only one cable at a time.



Also the line going to the amp does not need to have internet access, only to be able to "talk" to the software on my PC. And it must be Cat7 speed capable.


Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Several options ...

Add an extra Ethernet card into the PC and run a cable as required.

Fit a Switch in to the system and Ethernet cables from it, to both the "Modem" and the Amp

Use a Wifi to Ethernet converter at the Amp end if you have a reasonable WiFi system in the PC

Connect an Ethernet cable from the router to the Amp and you should be able to see the amp from the PC.

Unless we are talking about an immense area there should be very little signal loss

Your motherboard has 2 pci-e x1 slots.

Will the add on card work separately from the factory installed one that is connected to the internet or in conjunction.



I am looking for set up info once installed, or rather how to configure it.


I assume i am not "setting up a network".

They will work separately. I have no input on how to set up the connection to the amp, but assume that once you have an ethernet cable connecting your pc to the amp it will be a straightforward process. I would guess amp manual would have the instructions you need.

The question on configuring was for the card not the amp, I have that squared away.

It's depends how it connects it will need and IP so we're will that come from?

This additional LAN is not going to be connected to the internet, only communicating via Harmans HiQnet Audio Architec software



Just need to have another wired Eithernet connection and my PC only has one.

The internet is not a factor in the set-up for what you wish to do, you have to setup a LAN between the PC and the Audio Amp, a quick check of the info in the link you provided suggests that it should be possible to set up a point to point network, though it's not clear if you can do this using a standard Ethernet based PC network.

Yes, the software should not be internet dependent. I have it installed, just need a port.
