Solved How do I delete Fedora 17 and repair Windows 7 Bootloader without DVD

Hi,

Here's the issue I'm having. I need to delete Fedora 17 and repair the Windows Master Boot Record but my DVD drive crapped out on me a while back, so I can't do it from the Windows DVD and I don't have a Jump Drive large enough to use the USB Installer to repair it, so I'm wondering how to go about doing this without messing my whole system up. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the help, got it figured out. After Googling the hell out the subject, I finally found a program called DualBootPro and from inside the program you can repair the MBR. Got it solved.

Can be doen with bootsect.exe c: /force /mbr
or with easybcd. Or with partition wizard. And maybe many more

You don't need a Windows DVD to do this. There are third party tools.

Here are the logical steps you need to do to solve the issue however do this at your risk. I take no responsibility if you stuff something up.

- Overwrite the MBR (master boot record) of your primary disk drive where Windows is installed with a version that's Windows Vista/7 compatible

- Overwrite the PBR (partition boot record) of your primary partition for Windows

- Set the Windows partition to Active

To do this:

- Download a program called BootICE (virus/root kit check the file)
- Select the disk you have Windows installed on
- Select Process MBR
- Select the Windows NT 6.x MBR option
- Select Install/Config

Then,

- Select Process PBR
- Select the partition you have Windows installed on
- Select BOOTMGR Boot record
- Select Install/Config

**Next**

You must make sure the partition where Windows is installed is still set to "Active"

Using the same software, BootICE

- Select Parts Image
- Highlight the partition you have Windows installed on
- Select "Activate"

That would be it. Then delete the Linux partitions and you can create new NTFS ones or extend the Windows partition.
