Solved How do I deselect a Paint option

I am in Paint and any time I select an option on the ribbon, such as the Text button to insert a text box, I cannot figure out a way to deselect it besides selecting another tool. I can't find a deselect option. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you, Hanna 1. Unfortunately the ESC key does not deselect a tool.

It's working here.
If you select TEXT and type in there you can UNDO the typing and then pressing the escape you get rid of the selection.

I apoligize. I don't think I'm explaining my issue clearly. I can undo what I have created, but the Text button still stays active until I choose another button from the ribbon. I am just wanting to deselect the Text button option, or any of the other buttons for that matter, and just return to no selections as it is when the program is started.

When paint starts it is actually in the Default Brush. I don't think Paint has the option to not have any tools selected.

If you are looking for something more versatile, I would suggest GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program or Paint.NET - Free Software for Digital Photo Editing

Both have many more options than the Paint that comes with Win7 and they are both completely free

Thorsen, thank you as that is the information I needed. I didn't realize it was the default brush, so now I can just click on that. I am a software instructor at my business and am developing a class on programs which can be used to modify pictures.

Cool sounds like fun. people use Photoshop and Illustrator in the Graphics industry, but these programs are way to expensive for hobbyists or people who don't do it as a line of work. I always have GIMP and Paint.net installed.

Another for free that acts like Illustrator (Vector Based) is Inkscape Inkscape. Draw Freely.

If your business uses Windows 7 then I would suggest also mentioning the Snipping tool: Snipping Tool - Windows 7 features - Microsoft Windows

I also change the Keyboard shortcut to Ctrl-Alt-C so instead of print-scrn or Alt+print screen:
