How do I disable Homegroup

Hello,

I have had Windows 7 on my computer for several months. Then all of a sudden, something called Homegroup started appearing. I had never heard of Homegroup and thought it was some kind of virus. Whenever I start my computer and try to set my Internet connection to home connection, a prompt for Homegroup appears and then says that I have to switch from IPV4 to IPV6. How I can I make Homegroup go away, and not appear when I start my computer?
