How do I figure out my 6pin connector wattage?

So I'm planning to start saving for the ATI 5850 video card, but I am wondering if my 6pin connectors have 75watts (ATI website says. 75w 2x 6pin connectors).

My PSU is the Enlight Sniper 650 W PSU. I have tried looking through the web for anything but haven't found anything on it. Aside from calling their support team I was wondering if there is an easier way of doing this.

You are going to use a PCI EXPRESS 2 slot to install the card.
Depending on what you already have plugged in your PSU should easily handle the card. If you are not sure go to the ATI website and they have a page where you can virtually plug in your components such as dvd drives, hard drives gfx cards and you will see how many watts your PSU is being called for.

You should not have any issues with size considering you are using a full size ATX Cooler Master tower.

I mean the fact that I have lots of cables running along the side of my HDD/DvD drive area. I am wondering if the card would interfere with them or not, and if I have to do any re-adjustments.

I don't have a 5850. My 5870 is supposed to be 11" (279 mm) long, but I haven't measured it. (Fits OK in my Cooler Master Stacker 830 case.) The 5850 is 9.5" (241 mm) long, but its PCI-E power connectors are on its end rather than the side (5870), so it may not be much easier to fit in practice.

The list includes single-card configurations. No Enlight products are on the list. That probably means that they weren't tested, rather than unworthy. I can't find specs that guarantee that your Sniper 650 will happily drive a 5850 along with the rest of your system, but I'd be surprised if you had any trouble. The maximum load the card is supposed to make is 170W.

I'm pretty sure all 6pin connectors are the same wattage and they also supply you with adapters to convert 4 pin to 6 for this card however I would really recommend something bigger than 650 to handle having a card like that.

I think that if you run that card with such a small PSU you are going to find out how fast a PSU can fail. I wouldn't give that unit more than 6 months under a load like that card is going to produce.

I say that out of personal experience after trashing a few 650 units using a pair of crossfired x1950s each took a single 6pin connector and it put some serious strain on the 650 units I had.

I am with you on this issue.
Viewing his system stats his power demand is 550-600 watts! Thats without putting a heavy load. Depending if he is a gamer which I strongly suspect the temptation to tinker and overclock will be great.
Before putting out $300 for an exotic card invest it in a new, stronger PSU. It may be what you don't want to hear but the potential to turn your system to a door stop is pretty high!

Er Adrian if that computer is supposed to be mine. You might want to look at my specs 1 last time lol. I don't have a xeon cpu. I got a Q6600 C2Q.

Hey WT I had to take a guess, but as Antman said ASSUS way over estimates power usage so I think you'll be fine with a 650 watt psu.

As posted elsewhere, have a look at another wattage estimator:

It doesn't include the 5850, but the 5870 is on the list. (The 5870 needs more power, although it uses the same connectors.)

Looks like a good 400W PSU could be adequate. However, as others have posted, you may not get long service from a PSU that is run flat out for extended periods.

Your PSU is rated at 16A on each of its three +12V rails, which suggests that it's a reasonably good 650W unit. You need 75W (6.25A) on each PCI-E connector, so even if both of your PCI-E connectors were on the same rail, you'd have margin (if no other devices were on that rail.)

You'll get lots of help online in spending your money. I can't swear that your PSU will be adequate, but I'd risk it if it was mine.

I use a PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750. It worked fine with an overclocked I7 920, plus a pair of 4870s in Crossfire. It's rated at 60A on its single +12V rail, though. I'd recommend it as a robust PSU that doesn't cost a fortune (if you fear that yours will meet an early demise).
