How do I increase my dedicated video RAM?

Alright, I'd like to download and play Skyrim, but the website, "Systemsrequirementslab.com" says my dedicated video RAM is too low to play. I know that the website often tells you that you can't run a game if you have hardware it doesn't recognize, but I checked it out and this time it's right.

I checked under the Intel Systems Information
Current Graphics Memory (In use): 75mb
Maximum Graphics Memory: 1760mb

1760mb is well over the recomended amount for the game, so I'm not sure how to let my laptop use it. If anyone could help me figure it out I'd really appreciate it!

I'm really not very tech savy, accessing the memory info is about the most technical thing on my computer I've done so far. If you need any more info, I'd be more than happy to try and find it for you if it helps. I'm also a new user, so if I posted this in the wrong place I'm sorry.

The maximum graphics memory is shared system memory that the system lets the graphics card use. Dedicated memory is faster and is only available for the graphics card. You cannot adjust the amount of dedicated video memory.

Your system isnt a good choice to run that game (nor I suspect many current games) because it doesnt even have enought vram to support aero in win 7. Coupled with that any shared ram will be taken away from the rest of the system so if as I suspect you are thin in ram, it will make your system ram situation worse.

It's an ASUS laptop, I thought those were pretty much built for games? Also, it runs games like AION on high quality without a problem, unless AION isn't that graphically taxing

Asus does build gaming laptops but they build pretty much all tiers of laptops, you have to know what specs you want when buying one. What's the model number of yours? It should be displayed somewhere on the cover or underneath it.

Ouch. That right there pretty much says this isn't one of their gaming machines. Serious gaming, that is. I wouldn't bet on a playable/enjoyable Skyrim experience on this thing, even if it may be possible with the settings adjusted low.

It may be a nice machine otherwise, depending on what CPU you have in it - that build lists everything from an i7 all the way down to a Celeron. That's kinda odd though, gaming rigs generally don't need to cater to the lower end CPUs; if someone was going to be satisfied with a Celeron they wouldn't need everything else to be high spec.

You could try asking on the Skyrim forums to see whether anyone else with similar specs can play the game and what settings they used.

As I said, it is made worse by the 2 gigs of ram. That is expandable but frankly save your money and invest it towards something better suited to gaming.

Ok, thanks for all the help. I checked with my friend too and he says pretty much the same thing, laptops aren't meant to be upgraded. Anyway, I got it pretty cheap, like $400 at staples as a Christmas gift. It was mostly just for school, not really gaming, so I think I'll just wait until this one gives out on me and invest in a real good gaking computer, any suggestions?

You arent going to get any kind of gaming machine for $400. You are lucky if you do for $700

Desktops are a different story.
