How do I know if my device is running on USB 3.0 speed?

Hi.

I've bought a ThermalTake Muse 5G, and on the next day, I overstressed the connector and it broke.
I've re-soldered it back (a lot of work and hassle, hope I don't go through this again) -- making sure the fixture is reinforced -- and now, although the device is detected, I don't know if it's making use of those extra connectors.

Right now, I'm moving 143.886 items (156GB) from the external hard drive (the Muse 5G with a Toshiba mk5059GSXP, 500GB, 5400RPM, SATA II, 8MB Cache; USB 3.0 Connected). The estimated time left is around 5 hours and the speed is ranging from 26MB/s to 36MB/s.
At the moment I'm writing this, it started to transfer one big single file, and the speed went up to 42MB/s

I used to get around 25MB/s on USB 2.0, and this speed could be enough to ensure that the device is working on USB 3.0 mode, but I'm still not sure. Is there something that I could run or see to make sure of that?

USB 3.0 Drivers are properly installed and I'm running on Windows 7 x64 Ultimate.

----
Time left decreased to 1 hour left, and it is stable at 43MB/s

Always amazing people with the moveable fins on top of the Xpredator.
Sounds about right to me, my usb 3 drives and flash mem usually transfer single files around 35-45

The speed of a USB 3 interface is 5 Gb/s but no conventional drive can come any where near that. In practice your performance will be limited by that of the hard drive. The speed you were getting seems about normal. The estimated copy time is only that, an estimate. Actual times can be very different.

That's been my experience too. I've been using USB 3.0 for a while with an external SATA drive, and while I can achieve peak speeds of 100+, the average is around 50. That got better when I went to Sony a while back and downloaded the firmware and driver updates for my Renesas 3.0 chip. If you have the same chip, you should check the Sony site.

I've heard about upgrading firmware, but I'm a bit scared to do so. Still got to know which chip is mine, also.
It's a PCI-E x1 expansion card, and the familiar generic chinese product box which doesn't give any information about anything.

Oh, you meant the device firmware? I upgraded it, even put a custom name for it haha
Enabled some new features, but speed is the same. It's an Asmedia ASM1051
