How do I make Windows my default programme for opening JPEGs

I am having problems opening JPEG's Tiff's etc, they just will not open. How do I make Windows my default programme for opening them please. I am running Windows7 Premium Home edition also Photoshop CS5.

Control Panel, Default Programs, Set default programs. Select Windows Photo Viewer and 'Choose defaults for this program'. You may Select All, or choose by extension.

IrfanView can display psd files.
I'm not sure if the plugins pack is required (as I always install it).

GIMP can edit them.
