How do I program a key on my keyboard to execute a left click?

I have a Microsoft ergonomic keyboard 4000 which came with IntelliType Pro software.

I want to program a particular key on the to execute a left click whenever I press that key.

Is this possible to do?

I don't believe that can be done because the keyboard has no way of knowing what you want to left click on.

That is a new one for me also. If I understand it correctly it doesn't seem all that useful. Did I read the instructions correctly?

Moving the mouse and then using 2 hands to hit two keys on the keyboard.

I see the point in wanting to reduce mouse use due to carpal tunnel (or reduce dependency on a *&^%$#@! laptop touch pad—I hate them myself—without resorting to a mouse) but, since you have to use the mouse to get the pointer where you want it, it's not that much harder to hit the left or right click buttons while your hand is still on the mouse. Now, if the right click menu is a monster, once the right click menu is up, one can always use the up and down cursor keys to choose a selection in the menu, then hit Enter to emulate a left click.

What would make the above directions really useful is if there was some way to move the mouse pointer with the keyboard.

I agree, and thought the same thing when I found/read it. But I may be missing something

Only other use for this that I can think of is that mouse clicks are loud sometimes and if you are working in the same room as other people, it can get annoying.

you can program any key to do anything really with autohotkey:

you could use a preset script like this one that turns the numberpad into a mouse: Using Keyboard Numpad as a Mouse -- by deguix

Or you can write a script yourself:
This might take some research and programming, you would need to assign a key, then get the mouse position and perform the click:
