disk space fan 4 has been loaded and unloaded already as it gave an out of memory error on first use!! 8Gb of main memory here.

2gb of memory onthe wifes lappy and all is well here , no out of memory notices ...ever, yet!

I don't use Disk Space Fan 4, so I know nothing about it.

But your wife's laptop probably also doesn't have millions of files to search through. Might be relevant.
