Then it sounds like what Bree said in post #12 is correct about something called taking Live Photos. You did indicate you turned off Live Photo though. So as a test, if you take a new photo with your phone and then upload that is it still in video format?

It's just one reason why I don't care for the "think different" Apple product ecosystem. An iPhone may be easier for some to use, but that comes at a cost...
Nice find, This particular comment seems to be helpful for the OP. For their existing Live Photos they can use the iPhone to make a still copy that can be uploaded to the PC.
