Theres only one account on my computer, its my computer after all! Im trying to edit something in the system 32 folder and i understand that messing around in there can be dangerous and so they want to keep us silly duffers who have no idea what theyre doing out of there! But i just need to do one teeeeny little thing (long story but its not dangerous i promise!) and everytime i try to save the changes i make to the file it tells me access is denied. I googled a bit but i didnt get far, all i found was a suggestion to change the security settings in properties on the folder, but it wouldnt even let me do that.

Can anyone tell me how i can let my computer know that *I* am the boss around here!

it was kind of confusing... first step 'Open the Local Users and Groups manager.' then i read "You will need to be an administrator to open Local Users and Groups. "

:[

thought maybe that was a mistake and i would try anyway, but where do i even find this manager?

That just means that you will need to be logged in an administrator account to be able to open it. That's all.

The links in the steps will provide for more details on how to open it.

However, I would recommend to use OPTION TWO instead to enable the built-in "Administrator" account. :)

Thought it would be easier, thats crazy talk. all of it. I think ill leave it alone.

edit: ya it was.

called up genius brother "click on start menu, click your pretty flower in the corner. change user account control settings. Slide that thing down. Put it back when youre finished! Go blow up your computer!"

but thanks for your copy pasta, im sure when you do it over enough people sometimes itll actually help someone.

Option Two (scroll down a bit) is pretty easy since your current account would most likely be an administrator type account. This is not the same as the built-in elevated Administrator account since your current one is unelevated.

You would just need to open an elevated command prompt, copy and paste the command in step 2, and press Enter. That's it. :)

If you wanted to do this, then please feel free to ask questions about anything that you do not understand. I'll be happy to help.

Well, it did help someone.

Sean, thanks for posting this. It should take care of a little problem I've been dealing with.
