On my laptop there is an SPDIF and Headphone combined port. My battery life isn't that great and I am wondering if there is a way to stop it from glowing red!!! I have gone into audio properties and disabed it but it still gives out a red light which I suspect may use up a little bit of my battery. How can I stop it shining red???

That's an LED signifying the disabled status of the device. The amount of power it takes is infinitesimal, I don't think the overall effect it has on battery life is worth calculating.

The amount of battery it takes for that signal light is negligible. So, the worry should be on the annoyance, rather than on the power it consumes. I assume the red light tells that it is disabled/off, does it change color when it is enabled or running? I have done some research and I think the red light may not be related to the port. Can you give us a picture?

I believe the red light is "the optical output" and if I used an optical cable it would produce audio.

I hope the picture comes through alright...

The port always looks like that and yes, the biggest problem is the annoyance having an annoying red light shining on the front of my laptop!

If all else fails a small piece of this will do the trick,
