How do I make my monitors go to sleep after a period of inactivity?

They used to go to sleep, but I turned that off for a specific reason. Now I can't remember how I did it, and now I can't find where to restore the sleep functionality.

I used to use integrated graphics and now I have a video card, if that matters.

I got that to get the monitors to go to sleep, but after sleeping for several hours, they didn't wake up when I pressed some keys. I had to reboot the computer to wake them up.

When they were only asleep for about 30 minutes, though, they woke up promptly and easily with the press of a key.

It seems to be working properly again most of the time. One time after it had been asleep overnight, it didn't wake up immediately, but when I allowed it to take it's own course, it woke up after about 5-10 minutes. So the jury is still out, but it seems to be working OK.
