Hello guys,

How many computers have you got and also what windows, what they are used for etc? Post any details you like.

For me I have 2. My PC which has Windows 7 HP and Windows XP Professional its mostly used for interent and games etc.

Also I have a laptop with Vista which is used for backup, so I can still check my email if my main PC has problems or busy doing something.

I personally have three on my desk all controlled by Mouse without borders. I use one of my machines to chat with my wife on and off during the day since I have a bad heart she keeps an eye on me. My other two machines I run email and weather information on one and play music on the other whilst fooling around with virtual machines of various OS, surf the web, edit photos, music files and so on. We have 2 computers that are DVR's and we watch HD terrestrial TV, Netflix, Hulu, DVD's and other material streamed on the TV. My wife has her own machine (Lord help me if it does not work) and a netbook we use when we are out of town or when I am really ill and have to sit on the couch. I also have 2 machines in a state of suspended animation. One is an old PIII 800 Mhz Gateway with XP pro and the other is newer, a 1.9GHZ Athlon. Going to make one of the two when I get around to it. I have a legal copy of most Windows OS from 3.11 onwards. The exception is Windows ME which I never used.
Computers are a big part of my life, I like fooling around with them and I always have a back up it it all goes sour.

Due to functionality, I do consider the following to be computers, especially the second one.

Samsung Infuse SGH-I997 (fully rooted):
  • CyanogenMod 10 / Android 4.1.1 (Linux kernel version 2.6.35)
  • 512 MB of RAM
  • 1.2 GHz ARMv7l CPU (single-core)
  • 16 GB eMMC storage memory

ASUS Transformer Prime (TF-201):
  • 1 GB of RAM
  • 1.4 GHz nVidia Tegra 3 (quad-core, plus 1 power saving core)
  • CyanogenMod 10 / Android 4.1.1 (Linux kernel version 3.1.10)
  • 32 GB eMMC storage memory

I also have a minimal install of Ubuntu that I can access through a terminal emulator app on the Infuse and the Transformer. I do at some point plan on updating the Linux kernel on my phone.

As for Windows-based machines...

Desktop:
  • ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 (X58 chipset, LGA 1366)
  • 12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
  • Intel Core i7 920 (overclocked to ~3.6 GHz)
  • Windows 8 Pro x64
  • ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 1 GB GDDR5 (256-bit memory interface)
  • 1 TB 7200 RPM SATA II HDD

Laptop:
  • 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
  • Intel Core i7 740 QM (Intel PM55 chipset, socket PGA 988)
  • ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 1 GB GDDR3
  • 500 GB 7200 RPM SATA II HDD

OS
Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
In regular use?

Hmm...looks like 5.

Core 2 Duo E8500 OC to 4.2 GHz
Windows 7 Home Premium
Mainly used for gaming

Pentium Dual Core E6500
Windows 7 Home Premium
Main use is Home Theater

AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200
Ubuntu 10.04
4x2TB HDD in RAID 5
Media repository
TeamSpeak Server

MacBook Pro
Core i5
Snow Leopard
Main use is for email, web surfing

Compaq Presario 1610
Pentium 150
Windows 98SE
Mainly used for logging data from a Digital Multimeter when "grid charging" the battery in my hybrid car.
Bought brand new when a Pentium 150 was a big deal
I've included a picture of the Compaq in the early stages of building my grid charger.

Recently bought a Fujitsu LifeBook to replace the Compaq as I can't get any kind of Wireless to work with Win 98SE. Don't really use it for anything at the moment so I didn't include it in my count.

My working machines are a Win7 Lenovo Notebook and an XP Acer (aka POS) desktop. These are the only two I counted in the survey.

I still have the remains of a cannibalized Asus netbook that I'm going to take to CA to dispose of the next time I go there since I paid an $8 recycling fee when I bought the notebook there (yeah, I know, I'm a cheap old bi...broad; ornery, too).

Post edit: I forgot to mention I still have my old Commodore C64c system that was still working when I got my first PC.

I'm currently modding a case (Antec Two Hundred) for my next desktop. I've added some cable management holes, changed up some fan mountings to add filters and seal air leaks, and sealed up some other air leaks (even if I can't achieve positive air pressure, sealing air leaks will at least reduce the amount of dust that gets past the filters). All that's left to do is to seal the holes left from punching the case to make the straps that secure the narrow end of PCI slot covers, after which I can paint the darn thing, then install the PSU and the PSU cables I custom made, a 3.5" hot swap bay (it already has a 2.5" swap bay), and an el cheapo optical drive I got to help me make the PSU cables and to use to install Win7 (I'll replace it with a BD burner once everything is up and running). It will have an SSD boot drive and room for 6 data HDDs (I'll have only two data drives at first and add more as I need them). I'll also add an internal card reader once the system is up and running. I'll buy the CPU and cooler, RAM, and MOBO for the initial build sometime after the first of the year.

I also have a JetBook Lite e-book reader which is a computer of sorts.

I have too many computers! Not sure I can remember them all but here goes:

Main desktop (homebuilt i7-3770K) - Win 7
Dell Laptop - Win 7
Acer Netbook - Win 7
Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 tablet - Android ICS
Nexus 7 tablet - Android Jelly Bean
Droid Razr phone - Android ICS
Raspberry Pi - Linux
Nokia N800 handheld - Linux (not really used any longer)

I also have several other homebuilt units (3 with Win 7, 1 with Win 8)
I also have a collection of vintage computers (pared down to around 10 now) that mostly run DOS

I work from home so I also have a laptop plus 2 servers for my work.

I think that's all of them, I count 24. (there's probably more)

The count above doesn't include the computers my kids have. My daughters each have an Android smartphone, desktop, netbook and an Android tablet. My son has an Android smartphone, desktop, laptop, netbook and Android tablet.

Lastly, my wife has a netbook.

Wow! 38 (or more) computers in our house. I really need to cut back.

Well, what was my main machine, Mountain, is halfway through a (stalled) upgrade from Sandy to Ivy Bridge i7 (1366 to 1155). My secondary machine, Ocean, is now being used as a media machine (they're both Win7 Ult x64). My HP laptop, Forest, is W7 HPrem x64. I also have an Asus Transformer, but no smartphone as, being born on a planet orbiting a blue sun, I have the astonishing power of being able to go whole hours without being on the internet. I did also have a Q6600 which I gave a friend after his machine's steam-pump cracked. I also have a NAS box if that counts. That is called River. Because it flows into Ocean. I can't help any of this you know

2 in the bedroom, my Wifes laptop, one in the upstairs hallway, 2 in the living room, about 4 in the other bedroom (probably more buried there) & at least 2 in the attic. Some work, some don't...hell, I lost track. And enough parts lying around to probably build at least one working one....

Voted two.
Monitors on the other hand - let's just say when there's another e-recycling drive some of them have to go.
Desktop is still a good built machine, mostly htpc but also a bit of a server for the homegroup when I need it. It received it's probable final upgrade, an ssd not to long ago. W-7 hp.
Recently bought an Asus k53e w/i5 sandy bridge. I realy like it. Slabbed in 8 gigs of Adata and debating a 240 ssd once the warrenty is up. I like the fact I can do most of my computing with it, use it anywhere, at home, at camp, off solar, and use use less then 1/3 the power the desktop chews. The best part about it, w-7 hp not 8.
