How Many Versions of Windows 7

Same as Vista, reason being is because all Windows 7 is the 'minimal' and 'improved' Vista, kernel version 6 of major, and 6.1 of subversion.
Windows 7 is a minor release.
The Windows 8 'aka Corfu' will also be a minor release.
Microsoft obviously likes Vista, so why change its features with something new?
Most artists that have made their own concepts of Windows 7, show Windows 7 as OTT or like Linux, so Vista's design is probably the best thought up.
It was the idea of user-central GUIs and glass (as in 'windows') that have virtually completed the 'Windows' operating system.
We're stuck again, the Fluent User Inteface is nice, but only good for multi-task scenarios, like Word Processing or Publishing.

But back to the point, yes the same as Vista.

P.S. My sister works for the IBM future technology testing environment, and has got her hands on build 6975, apparently it's the last external testing build, ready for the 7000 build.

its not that they like vista but more that spend so many resources and time that to go from scratch (trying to build windows which is self containing (mitigate any crashes), has support for all the hardware currently available, and on top of that have a cool and slick gui and on TOP of that be fast enough that even a 5 yr old computer will be usable on it is very daunting task) is almost impossible...
hey i wish windows was only written in assembly..
i love assembly language because it shows how much you can you can pack in one application....

If I might clarify something, all available evidence is that Windows 7 has a build number of 6.1 so as to maximise the numbers of applications that will be compatible out of the box - as many applications check for the version number when installed and the "point" revision will allow this better than a 7.0. The same thing happened when XP came out - Windows 2000 was windows 5 and XP was Windows 5.1

but i also remember hearing that MS is rumor to make it 7.0 by RTM

but this is almost (i said almost) not matter since with app compatibility set to either os of choice....
but yes it would simplify alot for the devs which works better for them

Mine,

All it came with was the OS and a trial version of Windows LiveOnecare, which I uninstalled first, and that was it

I guess I was lucky in that regard. When I moved to Vista I only lost a couple of little used apps. Found updates for everything else. The only thing I haven't gotten working in Seven is my laser printer. Was installed automatically in Vista, but 7 doesn't even see it. Will see if the public beta does better.

i said ALMOST always.....
but most of those apps are maybe already legacy apps built for another OS (such as nt, 2000, ME or 98, 95 and even DOS (16 bit apps were supported in XP...:sarc
Thats one of the main main reason why big companies are not changing to vista...
the thing though is that my college is using vista enterprise and there fine with it...
i am going to say ALMOST no downtime since there is one computer that did not work for a week, but then again i do remember that when i was in High School our Win 2000 had more downtime that windows 98 ....

Point revisions don't affect the whole version number you know.
A point is a kernel service pack / remake to that of the kernel major version source code.
