i just end up with an empty ListApps.txt

Try changing the address to "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu"

If you, Like me always install for all users the user roaming tree may be empty

I've created a Bat file to automate the process

View attachment Program List.TXT

Edit and rename to .bat

Contents of the file is

@echo off

REm Edit USERNAME to be actual Name & D:\User\Desktop\to required location

Dir /o:n /b /s "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\*.lnk" >> D:\USER\Desktop\ListApps.txt

Dir /o:n /b /s "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\*.lnk" >> D:\User\Desktop\ListApps.txt

exit

Must be run as administrator - includes buth the user and all users locations

if u look a bit closer at my snipshot, you will see that i have already modified this, and the final listapps.txt filepath too...

i guess it's not my day as far as computers are concerned. why don't i just switch off my computer and go and do something less boring instead?

Not much. I bit the bullet and bought a Vista Home Premium upgrade to bridge the gap from XP Home. I could hardly believe how great of a job the upgrade process did. When I receive my pre-ordered Windows 7 Home Premium, I'll do an upgrade install. I'm not into reinstalling all my stuff over and over. I've been through too many MS nightmares to want to repeat that.

Try running the command as administrator as some of the areas read are system areas

Let my laziness glow in the dark. After installing Windows and drivers, and Windows updates if applicable, I install the security apps. Apply my massive reg file. Then, I do not install anything until I need to use it.

That pretty much says it for me. The leaner the meaner.

Well, compared to all of you fellas...I don't install much at all. No wonder I never worry about things like the autotransfer of stuff from one machine to another. My data files are on my server and reinstalling a dozen or so apps is a piece of cake.

The thing I like best about this thread is the sheer number of applications that people are installing simply to maintain their Windows boxes. So many AV's, spyware cleaners, malware fighters, reg cleaners, system tweak utilities, rootkit detectors, defrag utilities, etc. Remind me again why MAC's and Linux are popular?? Not trying to cause a ruckus...just a general observation.
